Canada’s para swimmers are putting on a show in the pool this morning. Fernando Lu just powered his way to a heat victory over the Australians in the 100m butterfly S10 Great swimming from the young Canadian.

After a more than 15 minute delay due to the lane rope becoming unhooked we finally completed the last 100m breaststroke heat. Oliver Dawson posts the 6th fastest time of the morning. He’s easily into the semifinal later tonight in Glasgow.

SWIMMING BEGINS Good morning sports fans. A bit of an issue at the pool to begin swimming at the Commonwealth Games. The lane rope has become unhinged. Right before Canadian Oliver Dawson’s 100m breaststroke heat. Not ideal. Major delay here.

We are two hours away from the Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony here in Glasgow. And fans from around the world have started lining up to get inside the Hydro. First time ever the Opening for Commonwealth has been inside an arena.

OPENING CEREMONY DAY HAS ARRIVED Good morning from Glasgow sports fans. The Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony is slated for tonight and anticipation is building. CBC TV is carrying it live starting with a preshow at 2:30pm ET leading into the ceremony.

Canadian swimming star Kylie Masse has arrived at the Commonwealth Games competition pool. She has won an astounding NINE Commonwealth Games medals over two Games. And Masse is back for more in Glasgow.

Inside the Tollcross Swimming Centre where swimmers from Canada, Australia and beyond are in the pool ahead of the Commonwealth Games. I’ll be interviewing many of the Canadians in a short time. There are 24 Canadians competing here in Glasgow at the pool.

Golden hour in Glasgow as we get closer to the Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony. It all starts Thursday evening here. CBC TV/Gem is carrying it live. And then competition begins Friday. 149 Canadians ready to take on the other Commonwealth nations.

CANADA’S 🇨🇦 FLAG BEARER Paralympian Kady Dandeneau has just been named Team Canada 🇨🇦 flag bearer for the Opening Ceremony at the Commonwealth Games. She won 3x3 wheelchair basketball gold at the last Games and looks to defend her title in Glasgow.

Arriving at the Tollcross Swimming Centre here in Glasgow. It’s a facility that was built in 1997, hosted swimming at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. And will once again host swimming at these Commonwealth Games.

One of the most appealing parts to the Commonwealth Games is that this is an integrated event. And here in Glasgow, we will see the largest Para sport program ever in history. There are 35 Para athletes representing Team Canada. We’ll have extensive coverage of their events.

Accreditation pickup day always makes these international events become real. I’ve had the great fortune of covering Olympics, world championships, Pan Am Games around the world. But this is my first time covering the Commonwealth Games. Thrilled to be in Glasgow for it.

Land of the living skies. Had to pull over while driving back to Saskatoon from Regina for tonight’s breathtaking sunset. One of the many things I miss about home, the sky.

Good morning sports fans from the homeland. An idyllic Saturday in Saskatchewan. It’s good to be home for a few days before a wicked summer of travel. There’s something grounding about the expansive and endless sky.

TEAM CANADA 🇨🇦 FOR PAN PACS A team of 44 Canadians are heading to Irvine, California this summer to compete in the Pan Pacific Championships Aug. 12-15. A mix of veterans and rookies, including swimming sensation Summer McIntosh, will be in the pool for Canada.

TEAM CANADA 🇨🇦 AT PARA PAN PACS A team of 20 Canadian swimmers is heading to Walnut, California in late-August for the Para Pan Pacific Championships. It’s a stacked team full of veterans who have been there, done that.

BONJOURRRRRR 🥐 Good morning sports fans. The last day of Canadian swimming trials in Montreal has arrived. We’ll learn the rosters of the Canadian swimming teams heading to Pan Pacs and Para Pan Pacs later this summer. Croissants first.

All smiles from Shelby Newkirk who broke her own Canadian para record tonight at the trials in Montreal. She told me she talked her coach this morning about wanting to break it. And she did exactly that in the SB5 100m breaststroke event tonight.

TAYLOR RUCK DOES IT AGAIN She’s just won her fourth national title this week in Montreal. This time it’s a victory in the 50m freestyle in a very solid time. What a story she’s been this week. Incredible comeback. Joyful. Surging.

Ella Jansen and Finlay Knox pick up 200m individual medley victories at the Canadian trials in Montreal. Jansen is competing for Canada at the Commonwealth Games later this month. Knox will represent Canada at the Pan PACs in August.

Summer McIntosh not overly pleased with her 400m individual medley tonight in Montreal. It’s been quite the last 24 hours for her. She told me she watched Love Island last night following the hoopla of her 200m butterfly world record.

CANADIAN RECORD Sebastian Massabie for the win. And he lowers his Canadian para record in the S5 50m butterfly event to get this evening started in Montreal.
