Curse that pesky plumber! It’s Bowser Day, once again. Happy holiday to all who celebrate!
It was either this or The Net, but technically I didn’t see that film until a few years later.
Tech Solutions. After a week of battling with my pc to get it working again, I ran out of time for a proper comic. But it did inspire this little one-shot based on some of my thoughts while swearing at Windows.
Giving acrylic paint a try for the first time. Got a lot to learn when it comes to blending and getting the right consistency, but seems to be going well for a first attempt (considering I’ve rarely ever painted anything).
For those following Quackers on the main website; I've posted this week's comic early. I wanted to be sure it went up before I start trying to fix my PC as that's going to take up a lot of free time and certainly limit my ability to upload. I'll be posting as normal here tomorrow.
Anyway, I've managed to update Quackers on the official website, and I'll be posting the latest episode here later today from work. I can only hope I can come up with a solution to all this tonight or tomorrow.
Tested out making some rough pixel art for this week's Quackers comic. Decided to go with the normal line art however, just for the sake of getting to see more fun details, getting the comic out on time, and for my sanity. Might still make some proper pixel art of these scenes in the future though!
Solstice Gave myself and our heroes a little breather after the last month’s storyline with this subdued countryside scene. We’ll be back to usual shenanigans next week!
Working on some character designs for this week’s comic. Got a choice of three potential adventurers for one of Jason’s old games but I’m struggling to pick one! Kinda partial to the lion or goat, but what do you guys think? Who would you want to play as in an old school dungeon platformer? 🦁🐶🐐
8/8 Our final game is "Fetch!" Some kind of sports game, I reckon. Mash the buttons to fetch the stick! Enjoyed making this one, especially the main doggo character (you'd have several dogs to choose in-game). Tried to keep it as simple - but eye-catching - as possible, like sports games of old.
7/8 "Lair of the Goblin" I see this as an action RPG/platformer mix. But are you the goblin, or are you an invading adventurer? Had fun creating the little piggy goblin for this one. Used a painterly style (it's an adventure game after all), but kept it simple and more cartoony.
6/8 "Dump the Junk", another Game & Watch style game with silhouetted artwork. In it you're dumping rubbish falling from various places above the level to one of two piles at either edge of the screen. I thought a racoon character made a good choice for this one.
5/8 "Dodge That Truck!" I imagine this being like a Frogger style game, but the box art had to be more dramatic, yet cheap looking. And so we have a speeding truck in a lineless art style. Absolutely no info on the gameplay, the title does all the heavy lifting, as many 80's games did.
4/8 "Box Stacker". I wanted to include a couple of 'Game & Watch' styles games in the mix, and the title of this one seemed perfect for that gameplay. A simple LCD style silhouetted character (some unnamed dog) and a bunch of boxes. What else do you need?
3/8 Next up, "Yamamoto's Biscuit". Can't do a pastiche of 80's/90's gaming without a Yoshi rip-off. A puzzle game with biscuits (cos I'm British & cookies are their own thing here). Wanted a lizardy mascot, but not a dino, so went with a happy gator. Even made my own brush for Yoshi-style outlines.
2/8 Box 2 is for "Slippy Slope" an early 8bit game. Simple gameplay of your character sliding down many slopes avoiding obstacles, reminiscent of early NES games. I wanted to make something harking back to the very first NES boxes with the blocky images and mid-80's aesthetic.
Starting a little thread of box art seen in this week's comic. First up "The Myth of Wanda"; Quackers' version of Zelda games. They feature a parrot questing to rescue Princess Wanda. The series has been mentioned in previous episodes. Did a more painterly style in homage to the first Zelda games.
This week's comic is going to be pretty late today. Basically had to do the equivalent of eight paintings as well as the usual comic panels and it's taking forever to put it all together! 😭 I'll post it once it's finished, but look out for a repost tomorrow to catch those that miss it tonight.
