Game #16: Cave Story+ I’ve heard this game was an indie darling, and that is 100% true. For a game with upbeat chiptunes, fun character designs, and Mega Man style weapon swap, this game managed to break my heart in places with its surprisingly dark narrative. I can’t recommend it enough. 9.5/10

Game #15: Ape Out A game that dares to ask, “What if Hotline Miami, but gorilla?” Jokes aside, this game is a surreal experience with bombastic music, a trippy minimalist art style, and a tough, rinse-and-repeat gameplay loop. An absolute delight. 8/10

Game #14: Atari Mania I’m have very little experience with Atari’s hayday outside of the classics, but this was a cute little WarioWare style game with a lot of little details to celebrate its 50th anniversary. Short, sweet, and to the point. A neat little package. 7/10

Game #12: Neon White If you’re into speedrunning, this game’s for you. If not, this is still an extremely good platformer with kick ass music, tough but fair level design, and an otherworldly art style. I’ve never felt a sense of flow this smooth in a platformer in my life. 9.5/10

Game #11: Castlevania: Rondo of Blood Easily the best of the traditional Castlevania games I've played, and it's not even close. Tough platforming, stages with alternate paths, secret bosses, and a fantastic soundtrack. Everything I wanted this game to be, even if it's a little jank. 8.5/10

Game #10: Doom: The Dark Ages I don’t how ID does it, but this game is a masterpiece. Eternal was great, but this was on another level. If you’re down for a more melee/parry focused Doom, look no further. The campaign is a little long, but I feel it never outstays its welcome. 9.8/10

Game #9: Yoku's Island Express It's a good game with a unique concept, being a Metroidvania with pinball mechanics. The physics are good, if a tad frustrating, the art style is beautiful, and it's very easy to sink into. Perfect for a cozy game library, if pinball doesn't frustrate you. 7.5/10

Game #8: Mario vs. Donkey Kong (2024) As a DK fan, I was gutted seeing this after rumors of a new game. But despite that, this game is very laid back, has an easy listening soundtrack, and the puzzles strike a nice balance between fun and challenge. Will definitely play the extra levels. 7/10

Game #7: Batman: Arkham Asylum I’ve only dabbled in Batman, but Asylum does a fantastic job with its narrative and environmental storytelling, despite the overly dreary tone. The exploration is rewarding, the combat flows well, and it’s, overall, a great introduction to Batman’s world. 8.5/10

Game #6: Metal Slug X Most, if not all Metal Slug games generally follow the same run and gun formula, with incredible sprite art I might add. Still, Metal Slug X is a very good game, if incredibly difficult. I can't imagine how people beat this game in arcades. 7/10.

Game #5: Doom (1993) I mean...it's Doom. This game needs no introduction. Snappy controls, secrets encouraging exploration, and the grandfather of all first person shooters. This game would be a 10 on influence alone if it weren't a tad bit slippery. A tiny bit dated, but still a classic. 9.5/10

Game #4: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe This is the Smash Bros Ultimate of Mario Kart: A wealth of different tracks and characters from across the series' history, complete with fun gameplay that's easy to pick up. With good battle modes thrown in, it's a complete package worth its price tag. 9.5/10
