Friend got me this Chrysina resplendens enamel pin from @rovinghouse.bsky.social so I grabbed my own specimen of the same species to showcase :) Pretty cool huh? There is genius in the choice of material, I absolutely love it!
Update: the two premies have finished absorbing their yolk and are livelier than ever! I’m breathing again 😮💨 I really don’t have the time and mental energy to deal with that but I have to admit they are very cute
Two babies out of the seven have left their egg before absorbing their yolk, which looks very gross and a bit alarming, but apparently can be dealt with by leaving them alone in the same conditions as incubation. 1st one has finished absorbing this morning and joined the nursery, waiting on the 2nd!
I have a manuscript to write with major anxiety and ✨premature baby ackie monitors✨ to watch because the heat wave made them hatch too early! How’s your day? ft. baby n˚1, perfectly healthy
Joanna the beloved ackie monitor was buried this weekend. She was truly loved. I’m glad we could honour her. Next post contains photos of her dead body so be warned if you are squeamish with this topic.
Do not fret my friend for I bring knowledge It's 36°C (99°Freedom units) and we don't have AC so I'm living in basements from now on
Very small wings but not unused! I was caring for the Hemiblabera cockroaches when this individual kept flashing their wings at 90 degrees. I had no idea they had that much motion range, or even that they could move them! Why? No idea. My bet is on chemical communication.
Update: So apparently this has always been there and I can self-diagnose myself with plant blindness (the beetle is munching on it!)
In other news, my first Pelidnota punctata emerged! It’s a common Rutelinae from North America that primarily feeds on grape leaves, sometimes seen on Virginia creeper. Completely unrelated note, I’m now searching for grapevines/spinach/Virginia creeper that would grow in Paris :’)
Among all those insects, can you guess which are extant and which are extinct? 👀
AZERTY/QWERTY and normal keyboards under-using your thumbs WILL fry your nerves, get into split designs ASAP (Very happy with my Ergodox EZ)
On 19/04/2026, Joanna has passed away. An egg burst in her abdominal cavity, nothing could be done (PSA get your ♀️lizard fixed). She was sweet, full of personality, 24/7 annoyed but also very curious. There was so much I still wanted to do with her.
I’m so lucky to be (on my way to be) a recognized expert of the most charismatic beetles ever
3. I have progressed enough on this side-project to be able to talk about it: I am building a Scarab Species File 🪲 Based on the TaxonWorks framework, like the Orthoptera Species File, this website aims to provide a collaborative space for an updated database for Scarabaeoidea species.
2. Eizo is now officially a viral lizard! With 1M views on Instagram and 1800~ followers, we are considering creating a dedicated account for him here on BlueSky as well. Many comments point out his size and the tameness of his babies, so we’re delighted to see our efforts in husbandry recognized :)
Eizo is getting ready for the Olympic games! Training is going well, the new running mat is perfect for his claws to grip, soon: the golden medal 🏅 We believe in you, Eizo! 🦎
Insects as initially described by Linnaeus in 1758. Many key species already, and some surprises (Blatta and Gryllus in Coleoptera !). How have I lived before knowing I can consult any masterbook of the History of Science this easily thanks to scanned books by libraries around the world? 📖
