Devin Has Clean Counters in August

Coffee Number Four: this was supposed to be a nice pourover coffee, but apparently I have no paper filters. So it’s espresso-style black coffee.
Coffee Number Three: a flat white. When I was in Australia years ago I had like four of these a day; those Aussies know how to do coffee right.
They also have “White” which is…less accurate. But more creamylicious.
Coffee Number Two: site office coffee (think “slightly better than school staff room coffee”) with cream, sugar, and a little hot chocolate powder. I call it a Folk Fest Mocha.
It’s finally coffee day! Coffee Number One: starting things off sweet and instant with a Kopiko Brown coffee. Just to ease into things.
The four words that every Devin wants to hear? “Let’s watch RAM-LEELA.”
NOW PLAYING: It's been quite a while since I watched a three hour movie on a Sunday afternoon, and I miss it. So I'm going to watch LAMHE (1991), and trick myself into using the interval to tidy some of the house. Surely Sridevi and Anil Kapoor would approve?
Last night I finished my June challenge, to paint for at least 20-30 minutes a day. I didn’t accomplish everything I was hoping during that time, but in the last week I managed to make a couple things I was kind of proud of.
I’m painting every day for my June challenge; I’m not very good but I am learning some stuff. Tonight I finished up an experiment I started on Friday. I kind of like it, which is a strange Thing for me, liking my own artistic endeavours.
Got my movie snacks ready. Not sure what movie I’m gonna watch, but at least I have the snacks.
I’ll link to the website but all you really need is these two screenshots. www.loveandlemons.com/pasta-fagioli/
Tonight: ALIEN: ROMULUS. I have heard nothing but bad things but am trying to have an open mind.
Okay, discourse-obsessives, I get the message.
Got some Unholy Donuts as my last “meal” in Toronto. Impeccable presentation and flavour.
Brunch in Toronto at Gusto 101. More than makes up for my bad sleep.
Fifteen years ago I visited my brother in Toronto, and he took me to Mother’s Dumplings. Easily the best meal of my trip. Today I went back (without him, sadly, as he has long since moved). It was better than I remembered.
Hope everyone’s having as nice an evening as I’m about to have.
@iamatrex.com got me a pretty good birthday present this year.
Had fun at Hawksley Workman tonight. My knees might have words with me tomorrow, but that’s tomorrow Devin’s problem.
Update: most of my smoothies have been some variety of green, thanks to using lots of cruciferous vegetables and spinach. This morning I made one of my “fun” recipes, a Carrot Cake Smoothie, and it’s a frickin’ delight.
Gonna bust open a new puzzle this fine Sunday afternoon. Been looking forward to this one for a while.
Sal Buscema was a legend by the time I started reading comics; he felt like he was an integral part of the medium in general. His version of the Green Goblin was my favourite; lean, angular, and menacing. RIP to a legend.
I thought I stopped caring about the Oscars years ago, yet seeing that Delroy Lindo is nominated for Best Supporting Actor gave me a massive emotional boost this morning. I would have pumped my fists in the air, if I could currently bend my fingers.
Went to the movies and caught NO OTHER CHOICE, which I liked even better than PARASITE. A vicious look at the inhumanity of contemporary life and business through dark humour and almost-magical imagery. I had lots to chew on after the lights came up.
Then on Sunday night, I burned my left hand and spent the whole night in emerg. I’m taking at least three days off work while my burns heal. This throws a medium sized wooden boot into the gears of my plan, but I’m still moving forward. The universe will have to do more than that to stop me.
Okay, it’s New Year’s Day and I’ve had two naps. I think I’m ready to get started on this year’s notebook. First things first: stickers.
