Music guy. Bristolian in spirit, if not accent. Dr Marten wearer. Intermittent francophone. New parent. He/him.
16f Thistle, Marshall Stage 7/10 I’ve enjoyed their singles/EP, but something didn’t entirely hit with me today. The lighting tech’s decision to start strobing the LED panels halfway through didn’t help - had to leave partway through as it was making me feel a bit sick.
16e Ain’t, Marshall Stage 8/10 10:30am is a godawful time to play a gig, but Ain’t did an excellent job. Swirly grungey stuff.
16d The Dark Room, 10/10 Big fan of @robbotron.bsky.social from appearances on @thegargle.bsky.social etc, definitely saw some streams in lockdown but haven’t seen the live show before. Loved every moment, absolutely genius stuff. Hope to see again & maybe play next time.
16b The Wildhearts, The Cave. 9.99/10 My favourite band playing my favourite festival. Loads of love in the tent, great setlist. Only lost a fraction of a point as they were even better in Newport recently.
16. 2000 Trees Festival Could only make it for two days this year, had a blast. Here’s what I saw in order: 16a The Scratch, Main Stage. 10/10 Bonkers trad Irish folk x Helmet-esque metal. Acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass, kick drum + 2 cajons. Shouldn’t work at all, but is brilliant.
This banger from the Sesame Street bathtime album nails the Beach Boys pastiche, but I just noticed the “poo in your hair” backing vocal and was so disgusted I put my foot through Spotify and sent Jim Henson’s estate the bill.
Some people say it’s a mistake to only offer designs of one specific animal in one specific colour, but not us here at:
8% DIPA - really punchy, but still very drinkable. I could get myself into some real trouble with a few cans of this:
Not bothered about the football so going to have a couple of beers, read some of this, watch The Boys finale and hopefully get a decent amount of sleep.
Found this Trans Pride flag pig in kiddo’s Hey Duggee set. Lovely stuff.
Excellent post day @brockway.bsky.social - I Will Kill Your Imaginary Friend For $200
Might buy a new bass guitar today - I’ve been using a pretty crap one someone gave me for demoing and borrowing one any time I needed to record something proper. A mate recommended the Squier as a good value all-rounder, but the shop I’m going to also has a lush Orange one…
Sure, if they’re out of Old Carbohydrate Warm Liquid maybe I’ll try a
Righty then - with less than 3 months to go, we've sold more than half the tickets for my 20th anniversary show! Now with added Non Canon set opening up the day, and the amazing @suzannahevans.bsky.social! hdfst.uk/e152763
I’m in awe of the “no it doesn’t make any contextual sense, but we’re doing it anyway” shoehorned pun here:
Spent two hours in an air-conditioned garage playing through a few songs ahead of Sunday’s gig. Was actually cold by the time I had to leave. Glorious. Weather is supposed to be more chill on the day, but I’m putting the aircon on full anyway. Bring a jumper. hdfst.uk/e151035
I’ve not seen a single post from someone about *that* summer, but a lot of my timeline is people posting about their posts.
🎵Mother, I tried please believe me 🎵I'm doing the best that I can 🎵I'm ashamed of the things I've been put through 🎵I'm ashamed of the person I am:
Our little guy is 23 months old today. Can’t face a whisky in this heat, so a cold beer will have to do. How has it been nearly two years?
Shania smiling politely in the background of Angine de Poitrine’s shot has to be a new meme format for something, right?
Anyone need some professional pics taken of their Goth Balls? Niche work, but someone’s gotta do it I suppose:
15. Day of Wreckoning fest, Newport I went for The Wildhearts who were outstanding. 10/10. Caught a few other acts earlier in the day too, three who didn’t do anything for me and two who were pretty solid. Deets in the notes app screenshot as I’m running out of space to post:
Bus reading. 260 pages in and only just got that the title A/S/L refers to the character names.
Hayfever has chilled tf out today, so having little a beer as a treat. This is great - 5.2% but tastes like a much stronger DIPA. Very good.
Two weeks left of being 42 Come hang out: hdfst.uk/e151035
Our boy is pretty miffed that he can’t have a couple of cans and drive a forklift just because the pollen count is a bit high
