As we graduated our first cohort of Taiwanese NYCU medical students from their summer rotation at @iamunmc.bsky.social it was an opportunity for mutual learning! From research and clinic to cooking and the zoo, it was a chance to build a deeper relationship between two innovative organizations!
Wonderful day to enjoy the great outdoors with our @unmcpsychiatry.bsky.social team! From our new interns to our seasoned faculty, international students to our dedicated staff, APP’s and therapists, it truly takes a village to provide high quality mental health care across Nebraska and Iowa!
In case you’re struggling this academic year, you’re not alone. Challenges in federal or state funding and leadership changes can be stressful. I’ve found that this is the time to lean into coffee with mentors and mentees. Take time to truly check in. Never worry alone 🌱
Taking a moment to immerse oneself in nature is always worthwhile. For parents, it shows our kids that unplugging from screens is a necessary thing. Even a half hour where we truly listen to the birds and glimpse a place of beauty can be restorative 🌱
“And the sunset itself on such waves of ether That I just can't comprehend Whether it is the end of the day, the end of the world, Or the mystery of mysteries in me again.” - Anna Akhmatova Make time for sunsets 🌱
As the academic year draws ro a close, it’s important to recharge for the year ahead. Sometimes stress is not apparent to ourselves but to our loved ones and peers. However you find peace - schedule rest, reflection and time in nature 🌱
On my last #FathersDay before my twins head off to college, it’s been a journey. And I’m lucky to still have my dad and father-in-law in my life. Kids teach us many lessons - patience, joy, curiosity … and endless humility 🙂 To all the dads - enjoy - it goes by fast!
Stormy days remind us that no matter how prepared we are, life happens. A crisis at work, a health emergency, or a struggling family member can disrupt our plans. In those moments, it takes courage to ask for help. Call or text 988 to connect to someone who cares 🌱
Signing the beam and seeing it raised high by the construction team marked a milestone for patient care at Gretna Landing Health Center! From primary care to specialty services, orthopedics to lab services, family medicine to radiology, it’s wonderful to see the partnership among so many leaders!
On this #MemorialDay, I want to take a moment to honor our team members who have served, who are currently serving, who have a loved one in the military, or who have lost a loved one in service. Your commitment continues to save lives through your incredible teamwork. Thank you for your sacrifice 🙏🏼
“This has been the honor of a lifetime to serve as @APApsychiatric.bsky.social president. The psychiatrist workforce shortage is the greatest challenge & our plan will require all of us at #APAAM26. Advocacy is not optional, it is essential to implement.” - President Miskimen Rivera
Excited to discuss AI and educational policy with an all-star team of Drs. Darlene King, Jeff Rakofsky, and Tim Kreider at the #APAAM26 today in San Francisco! Leaders, teachers, and administrators need to understand the landscape. We hope to see you today (Saturday) at 1:30-3 pm Moscone 306!
Excited to join the @apapsychiatric.bsky.social meeting today with our @unmcpsychiatry.bsky.social faculty, residents and med students! And #APAAM26 is a great place to catch up with mentors too. In times of change, it’s important to meet with trusted colleagues IRL. See you in San Francisco!
Happy #MothersDay to all the moms! There is no relationship like that between a mom & a child. Hope, joy, sacrifice, and pain are real. Thinking of all who miss their moms or have a complex relationship ❤️🩹 May this be a day of rest and peace 🌱
When I hike, I like to visit the “impossible tree” growing sidewise on a steep incline. It reminds me of the power of resilience. Even in difficult times, we can find strength. This #MHAM2026, take care of yourself. Invest in your mental health every day 🌱
I can confirm that eating the iconic Taiwanese tea egg from 7-Eleven while gazing at Taipei 101 in the distance makes everything better 🙂🌱
There is so much focus on achievement that sometimes we overlook sustainability. In times of change, we need to protect our time with loved ones and friends. And schedule time in nature. Knowing where we draw energy will ensure there is joy in our leadership journey 🌱
“‘Go back?’he thought. ‘No good at all! Go sideways? Impossible! Go forward? Only thing to do! On we go.’” - JRR Tolkien, “The Hobbit.” My youngest is reading one of my favorite books which I first read as a child. Life lessons from reading resonate across generations 🌱
When I was in Houston this week, I stopped by a coffee shop that employs people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. It can seem like a small thing, but as a child psychiatrist, I know how important it is for all people to feel supported, seen & welcomed at work 🌱
No better way to celebrate #WomenPhysiciansDay than to team up with UNMC child psychiatrist, Dr Leah Jesse, for grand rounds! She is an expert in ADHD & college mental health, and a growing presence on Insta in #SciComm! Thanks to Dr Gregory Scott Brown for hosting us at U Houston Med! 🙏🏼
On #WomenPhysiciansDay, we are proud to celebrate the women psychiatrists who are providing outstanding care, training, research, and community engagement at @unmcpsychiatry.bsky.social! 👏👏👏 A shout out to inspiring women physicians around the world who are saving lives each day 🩺
A banner day for @unmcpsychiatry.bsky.social as we celebrated our 2025 awardees! Congrats to our colleagues for excellence from leadership to citizenship, partnership to teaching, research to patient safety. There is no greater recognition than being nominated by your peers! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
As we begin a new week, be intentional about your time. If the news and social media are bringing you down, set limits. Make time to connect IRL with people you trust over coffee or a meal. Routines can be protective. As Tolkien wrote, “Courage is found in unlikely places.”
On #MLKday, I know that this is a hard time. For all who are closing gaps in health & public health, thank you 🙏🏼 For all who are dedicating their careers to underserved communities, thank you 🙏🏼 Caring for all patients & communities is a way to honor Dr King’s legacy 🌱
As the #NewYear arrives, I am grateful for all who inspire hope. Mental health advocates around the world - thanks for your courage 🌱 Academics & researchers - thanks for your tenacity in an uphill year 🏔️ Friends - thanks for the laughter - truly food for the soul ❤️
On a frigid winter day in Omaha, there are few things as comforting as crispy fried cod 🐟 Though many of us have health in mind as we enter the #NewYear, I also hope to spend more time with friends and loved ones around good food 🙂 Connection is key to joy and mental health! 🌱
Whenever I have leftover crab, I like to serve it with scrambled eggs and herbed butter for breakfast. Topped with a drizzle of Sriracha or Cholula on a warm tortilla, it is a great way to start the day 🙂
Saw fresh fava beans at the Asian grocery and tried making ful medames for the first time. The act of peeling each bean, squeezing the lemon, and mashing is definitely a mindfulness activity 🙂 For all the foodies - please share what you’re cooking or eating and happy new year! 🎆
