I'm running final proofs on Backwoods Banshee today. My acquiring editor says it's my best book yet. There's also another preorder campaign with Books Are Awesome in Parker, CO. Jake has started work on the character art cards. I'll share examples as he wraps them booksareawesome.net/backwoods-ba...
I’m heading back to 2nd and Charles At the Colorado Mills Mall Saturday! I'll be signing books from 10 am to 2 pm. It's a great shop in a fun mall with some funky shops. Come and see me if you're around.
Um...maybe? It gave me the chance to bring this beauty off the shelf, and the boss monster DID have summon Shadow Drake as a power.
Shout out to @koboldpress.com for their Tome of Beasts and Creature Codex. Having two DMs in my means it's hard to surprise them. These books let me mix it up and keep them guessing.
Seth has history there, and the poli's prince is/was a strong ally of Versinae.
Today I get to send the guys somewhere I've always wanted to write about: Dodona in northern Aegea. It's one of those places I've envisioned from the earliest drafts of Dark Moon, Shallow Sea, so now, writing the third and final book, I get to use it as a set piece before I put my favorite toys away
Giovanni is determined to help me make this deadline, though he also seems determined to eat my pen.
All set up at the 1st and Main Barnes & Noble in Colorado Springs. Pretty store. Come and see me.
Just a quick reminder that I'm at West Side Books in Denver tonight at 7 pm with C.N. Kuster to discuss her debut, the Bloodweaver. Come and see us if you're around. It's a great little store (one of my favorites) and community.
Tonight. 7 pm at the Poisoned Pen in Scottsdale. Please think of questions so I don't talk too much about my cats.
Cute aggression continues, or maybe Gio just likes the taste of human flesh. He's very sweet, when he's not gnawing on me.
Neeko was the best DM assistant Saturday. Photo by my friend Veronica, whose face I love.
Took off from gray Denver to land in sunny San Diego. Gonna write for a few hours before my event at Mysterious Galaxy.
Tomorrow, June 14th at 2 pm! I'm heading west to meet up with Brian Asman at Mysterious Galaxy in San Diego. I hope to see you if you're local and we can see how much swag I can fit in a backpack.
I'm heading to the Tattered Cover at Aspen Grove on Thursday, June 18th (5:30 pm) with my good friend James to talk books and the importance of fantasy. We'd love to see you! You can register and get a gift card to spend toward any book in the store at: www.eventbrite.com/e/david-r-sl...
Just in time for the release of The Silent Paths of Night, the ebook of the award-winning Dark Moon, Shallow Sea is .99 cents for a limited time across e-book platforms: davidrslayton.com/dark-moon-sh...
I just learned that Redneck Revenant won gold in the fantasy category in the Foreword Indie awards. This means a lot to me. I remain really proud of this book. I felt like I leveled up with it and the architecture really came together.
This month I'm hoping that more people discover Rogue Community College, my book about a magic school for everyone who needs it. I love all of my paper and pixel kids, but this one is special to me. Its audiobook is also on sale at chirpbooks for $2.99: www.chirpbooks.com/audiobooks/r...
This is a cat check point. Relinquish the most recent cat picture on your phone.
I stopped by the USS Tiburon (usstiburon.org) to see my friend Kelli, who let me on board despite my jacket. They sell tribbles. All the sales go to a homeless youth shelter. This one clearly mutated, perhaps from a radioactive spider bite. Still settling on a name. Miles seems a bit too on the nose
Canvas maps dyed and character art cards sleeved! I'm off to booksareawesomeco to sign preorders! Not too late to sneak one in at booksareawesome.net. jakeshandyart really killed it with these cards!
Left behind signed copies of ALL of my current titles, including two copies of The Silent Paths of Night. Call @buythebooktx at 832-732-5164 to buy one! They also have signed copies of Haunted by Myth and Wild Night Rising by @barbaraannwright !
The main reason I come to Texas (to see Luna the shop cat at Buy the Book in Houston).
