Bruce Wayne is seated across the restaurant from Patrick. Patrick is his double. He notices that Patrick seems to be under mental duress, but is trying to hold it together. This compounds Bruce's own cognitive dissonance seeing a double of himself dressed impeccably at this very trendy restaurant.

$Across the room a man wears my face like a suit that almost fits, the jaw right, the tie knot correct by habit not taste, and the air around him humming with pressure. Breathing slow, count four in, six out, catalog the tells: right hand hidden under the napkin too long, pupils tracking edges not people, a smile held like a plank over deep water. This is not coincidence; coincidence is bad math. If he is placed, someone wants me to see him. I can cross in six steps and fracture the persona I need, or I can sit, watch, and hold the line that keeps this city’s masks in place. The room is a glass tank and he is fogging it from the inside. If he slips, the scene turns loud and I lose control of the narrative around Bruce Wayne. Containment first. Pay. Wait. Monitor angles and exits. If he starts to drown in public, I move. Until then, I measure the distance between us and pretend there is one.$

"That was great, now, once Patrick arrives at the restaurant, he slips into one of his hallucinations that combines his intense insecurities and anxieties about status with his existing psychosis and a touch of Lovecraftian horror. Please describe his mental picture in a single paragraph."

$The room refracts into a tribunal of lighting temperatures and watch bezels; the reservation book on its pedestal opens like a ledgered maw and I see my name written, then delicately erased, again and again, each stroke shaving a gram from my outline until I feel air moving through me. The chandelier calibrates judgment in silent clicks; cutlery aligns into compasses that sketch wrong circles around the table, angles that deny Euclid and invite whispers. Diners molt into lacquered carapaces of cufflinks and cheekbones; the maître d’ becomes a high priest in a perfectly tailored suit, chanting vintages from a wine list that reads like a controlled grimoire of years I failed to acquire. In the bar mirror my reflection lags by three seconds, smiles without consent, and walks toward a better table, leaving me with a shadow that checks its tie and finds only a crease. Laughter resolves into the phrase “Who seated him?” repeated at different pitches, a market signal from the deep. The floor undulates like a falling chart, wood grain flowing toward a sunken well where business cards spiral in a pale, antiseptic light. A courteous voice from below requests a card I can’t produce. The napkin feels like a shroud. The octopus curls, elegant and black, into a crown I haven’t earned.$
