I'm a huge fan! This is a better description of the style than I could ever manage. (Source: www.seriouseats.com/detroit-styl...)
Also: Detroit-style pizza with sausage, onions, and mushrooms paired with Melts Into Air California-style pilsner.
Roaring Table's Tart's Desire raspberry/blackberry sour. This hits the spot on a hot day like today!
In more interesting news, I've now booked all of my lodging for my Labor Day road trip! 9/4 - Viroqua, WI 9/5-6 - Minneapolis, MN 9/7 - Duluth, MN 9/8-9 - Marquette, MI 9/10-11 - Traverse City, MI 9/12 - Grand Rapids, MI As times get closer I'll be pinging local folks to meet up. Should be fun!
After sitting in the sun for a few hours, I decided it was time to rehydrate. Am I doing this right? 🙂 You know, after 20+ years in the area this weekend marks my first time visiting Mickey Finn's brewpub. Their beer is really quite good (at least the amber and doppelbock, anyway).
I hadn’t intended to come back to Libertyville’s Dog Days of Summer, but I had so much fun yesterday. This is Django, who I posted yesterday, in the speed retrieve competition. Always bet on the border collie 😀
Nothing makes me smile more than watching a border collie lock in and do their thing. Here is Django nailing the 6' 8" (203cm) jump.
Last night I made the Reuben pot pie I picked up on Sunday. It was pretty much what it said on the tin. Not bad, but nothing amazing. I would try other varieties from that company, at least.
Holy cats. This photo of Thornton Quarry from I-80/294 was posted this morning to Reddit. The quarry is 450 feet deep at its lowest point. Looks like the Deep Tunnel stormwater system is doing its job! (Source: www.reddit.com/r/ChicagoSub...)
At least the dogs in my area are getting a semi-reprieve tonight.
Celebrating the start of the holiday weekend with a French Onion Detroit-style pizza: Wisconsin Brick, Mozz Blend, Sharp Cheddar Frico, Gruyére, Caramelized Onions, Porchini Crema Stripes I was afraid the cream sauce would be too rich, but it's delicious!
It's a good day to stay the hell inside! That humidity is killer. I hope my friends who have to work outdoors in this are finding ways to keep cool!
I headed out after the last band in competition played, but they were a very good one. This is Exit 122, out of Minooka, Illinois. They had great energy, though they were a little unpolished. I'm not sure that was a bad thing.
Best merch table I've seen so far: Taranis ("Girlypop Metalcore")
I'm pretty much completely off my crutches, but I brought them with me just in case. I'm glad I did!
Oh hey, it’s that Wait Wait guy! It’s very cool that Peter Sagal is volunteering as co-emcee for this event.
I'm checking out a very chill music festival today. If I understand correctly the performances today are the culmination of a month-long battle-of-the-bands competition.
"Get in the car. We're all going to Beef Village!" "Do they have vegetarian options?" "Get out."
I joined Mirko, Jim, and Jenne for breakfast this morning, then we staked out a spot for the Woodstock Pride Parade. It was low-key and pleasant as usual, and the weather was just perfect. I was happy to see the local furry group marching in the parade with a large contingent, too!
A snack and a cocktail from Inovasi: "papas from madrid" - crispy baby potatoes, serrano ham, marcona almond, parsley pesto, manchego finery, cheese sauce, nora chile "holy shit it's beautiful! an ingroni for the ages" - botanist gin, mauro vergano americano, turmeon white vermouth, orange bitters
I'm getting kinda addicted to this place. (Aprés Bakery, a fantastic patisserie in Lake Zurich, IL)
That's awesome. I love having a Pride band on my watch. I've had so many people say, "I like your watch band." which is secret code for "I see you are queer. I, too, am queer and appreciate you expressing that." (particularly in non-queer-friendly spaces)
I'm very glad that not only did I get home from visiting company HQ earlier than expected, but also that my grocery delivery was dropped off 15 minutes ago. (You can't say I didn't make it as easy for the driver as possible, though!)
