RRR (2022) Perfection. No notes, angry at myself and the world for taking so long to watch this one Was mentioning to a friend this is probably now the best way to get me into musicials, so any Tollywood/Bollywood recs are welcome (I obv. love my action and comedy but anything goes!)

YAIBA: Samurai Legend (2025) A fun "saturday morning" energy show that I wish I didn't fall off mid season. (and that more people didn't sleep on either!) Def. doesn't have the lasting power of Conan and it's also really aged in some aspects, but it oozes charm! Visually some of Wit Studio's best!

Detective Conan: The Gold-Star Answer (2026) Journey to Hiroshima (1994) I expected it to be dumb, but the Conan/Precure special was actually fun and clever! It handles the crossover well without "breaking lore" or whatev This short was fine? I liked the info more than the boring ping pong story.

Oba Electroplating Factory, by Yoshiharu Tsuge (2024) Yes, I loved Red Flowers enough to read another! I like Tsuge's travel stories more, but they're second fiddle to the more distinct ones in this volume. The title story here is def. a highlight! Faves: Oba Electroplating Factory, Yoshio's Youth

My Wife Whom I Loved Dearly, by Toryumon Takeda (2021) A one-shot I read on the whim of a friend's reccomendation, and absolutely tore me up. Incredibly quick read but loved it enough to be one of my new favorite one-shots (if that's even a thing, idk) Absolutely go and read this, please

Arabian Nights: Sinbad's Adventures (1962) A classic, that is just super super dry. It's a well animated & entertaining enough movie but it also doesn't do anything special - even for the era of animation it's from! Really need to get to some good Astro Boy stuff after all of this meh Tezuka stuff

I'll/CKBC (2002) BUS GAMER (2008) Another "they're short OVAs I didn't really like" twofer! CKBC was fine enough, but only left me not enjoying it nor interested to read the manga, so bad enough sign. Bus Gamer's main trio is not only boring as hell, but then the show also has CKBC's issues.

PLAZA, by Yuuichi Yokoyama (2019) A visual feast for the eyes, but otherwise didn't like it much. The inspirations are clear to see, but it felt like it aims mostly for just the "spectacle" of festivals and doesn't intrigue the reader about the meaning behind them. Gonna read more of his stuff tho

The final panel shows a pullout view of both the carnival goers and the floats in motion, with dice flying high in the air and the float now displaying huge boxes with different graphics displayed on their sides.

Battle Angel Alita (1993) Enjoyable OVA of the time, but didn't stick with me as much as I had hoped. Big problem that works against it is just the constant feeling of "this feels rushed", "there's way more to this, huh". Still worth it, but also could just read go the manga instead tbqh

Summer Ghost (2021) REALLY surprised how good of a movie this was for such a small runtime. (40 min!) I think it's a case were you really do get a lot more out of this going in blind, but I enjoyed the cast here a lot. I think there's some elements that I would've changed, but well worth the watch!

It's probably my favorite part of the show! I do like the main four too, but they really build on those two at a nice pace. The reference offer in the last episode was so sweet 😭 I also sorta remembered Kou and Rin's relationship but it's so much more gay than I remembered lmao

The Ramparts of Ice (2026) Very straightforward but solid romance drama, but w/ well done pacing and suspense. Not crazy abt the current status quo by the ending but it's def. doing its job of keeping me excited for the next season. Polar Opposites & this are such perfect foils for each other!

NEW GAME! (2016)♻️ After School Dice Club got me curious on if I'd still like this as much as I did when it aired - I still do! There's some enjoyable bits from the game dev side of things, but definitely stands as more as a workplace comedy vs. anything else. Now to finally watch S2...

MARRIAGETOXIN (2026) I love the manga, but for some reason felt short of loving the adaptation here. Still very very good (and also LOTS of incredible animation) but maybe I had me rose-tints on for these early arcs. The characters still continue to shine first and foremost tho. Ureshino best

SKYE (2020) A v. chill way to spend an enjoyable hour. Gave this a try from a YT recc & was worth the time! The racing within is very "okay", but I enjoyed my time searching the island for collectables and just trying to do cool flight maneuvers. Best thing here though is for sure the art style!

KILL BLUE (2026) Sooooo much fun, prob. #3 of fave watches this season. It just checks all of my boxes: really fun cast (GREAT secondary cast), solid action but also still really funny. Small thing I do appreciate is the very clear attention to "no romance, this would be VERY weird"

Scum of the Brave (2026) Was expecting this to be lame like Petals, but it actually p. damn good! Much more brutal of an action show. I do think the plot thinks a bit more of itself than deserved, but the "is there truly honor among murderers" struggle Yashiro has throughout is captivating enough!

Snowball Earth (2026) I really enjoyed this one, sides the last couple of episodes. Tetsuo is a fun MC; I think the premise and setting are also fun twists. Save for the surprisingly bloody moments, it's a enjoyably high energy new-age mecha. Did move somewhat slow, but enough to excite for S2!

Petals of Reincarnation (2026) So wack, but I felt like I couldn't stop watching anyway. Maybe when I was twelve, I would have found the MC's motivations and personality more engaging but everything here is just so boringly edgy. The "powers of historical greats" premise has been done better too.

The Furious (2026) For being nearly 2 hours, this felt breezy - save for me clenching for like a third of the hits. Rather straightforward plotline and resolution but the fights here are sooooooo fucking incredible. The larger fight close to the end is such a feat for action fight scenes, damn.

Sonic the Hedgehog (1991)♻️ Sumthin' different, using SonicTH Forever. I still don't get the "dislike" for this one; it's got some rough edges for sure but for a first entry it is stellar. I also don't think Sonic's main appeal is speed but that's a longer convo happy birthday lil guy 🔵

Adolescence of Utena (1999) banger of a movie, ikuhara does it again somehow Def. need to watch the series, but I agree/disagree w/ needing it for this. It does a surprisingly good job not keeping viewers too lost, but also has a LOT to take in without I imagine prior character knowledge.

Witch Hat Atelier (2026) I'm so glad they did one of my current manga faves justice animation wise. I kind of forgot how many moments from this early part I enjoyed - I actually thought the dragon section came much later for some reason. That cliffhanger though is BRUTAL, espec. for my fave arc

First Love, Hikaru Utada (1999 2nd music club listen! I somehow have never listened to this album before or really any of their albums beyond BAD MODE of recent. Such a good bop. The title song was somewhat weak for me but Movin' On Without You is definitely going on repeat. Those samples rule

Akane-banashi (2026) If Witch Hat wasn't this season, this would be my favorite. I can't say I have a way to explain why this is good, but it gave me the good feelings I had reading Hikaru no Go back in the day. Does an incredible job both animating and showing the importance of the art too

Detective Conan: One-Eyed Flashback (2025) Def. further up on my Conan movie rankings imo. I love a good snowscape but also the avalanche scene, the well choreographed gunfights and cast interactions were really good in this one. Surprised yet pleased Genta & Mitsuhiko get a moment in the sun!

Teekyuu 2 (2013) Space Family Carlvinson (1988) Teekyuu continues be fun, if insane to follow in its 2min episode format. I did like the jokes here more though than S1! Carlvinson is just a nice short OVA about a space family. I could definitely appreciate a simple gag series of this.

The Food Diary of Miss Maid (2026) The emptiest calories you could ever find in a show, but sometimes that's all you need. I can't say this is a show I'll remember very much but it's one of those things that's a breezy watch, good to calm down and do laundry and shit to. Just good times and food.

Red Flowers (2021) A compilation of various works from cartoonist Yoshiharu Tsuge. This was my intro to him and I loved it. The nonchalant and melancholic retelling of the places and people he meets are truly a worthwhile read. Favorites of mine here are Scenes from the Seaside and Mister Ben.

Saint☆Onii-san (2012) Pole Princess (2023) A combo tweet cause I barely cared about either lol. I had a lot of hope for Onii-san but for some reasons the jokes did not land for me at all + never had room to breathe. Meanwhile, Pole Princess is just straight up boring. 🤞movies for both are better.
