A lot of people these days are getting very sick and very obese. We allow multinationals to come here and sell us cans of carbonated drinks with 40 g of sugar but we do not allow someone to get a glass of raw milk.

Minister, why are my constituents allowed to vape but not allowed to enjoy their god-given right to give themselves diarrhoea?

On my way into the Dáil today, I walked into my local shop and I could buy an apple-flavoured vape. I could inhale it. I could also buy 20 cigarettes. I cannot, however, go in and buy raw milk easily. I know I am out of my depth as a Dublin TD asking this question, but why is it not possible to get raw milk in a Dublin shop? Why do my constituents sometimes have to travel to the North to get raw milk when adults should be able to make decisions on what we want to consume? I understand that the Minister is going to give me a logical answer about the dangers, but if there is a healthy herd, has the Minister looked at allowing farmers to sell raw milk?

According to the Global Peace Index, Ireland is the second safest country on the planet. This is largely thanks to our longstanding commitment to military neutrality; something many of us consider to be a defining trait of our national identity. There has been an increased push to dismantle the Triple Lock, the legal mechanism requiring three layers of approval before more than 12 Irish troops can be deployed anywhere overseas. Coinciding with this, there’s rising pressure for Ireland to involve itself with the North American and European military alliance, NATO. As this unfolds, arms lobbyists have been swooping in to ramp up activities in Ireland, ingratiating themselves with the Government, expanding their presence in media and embedding themselves within communities.

One example is last year’s Bray Air Display, which billed Locked Martin as its corporate sponsor. That was short-lived, as public backlash ensued, and the weapons manufacturer was promptly ejected from the line-up. Though thwarted, these activities serve one purpose: To help acclimate the Irish public to the normalisation of war.

Armament is a key priority for the European Union right now, with the bloc investing €800 billion (yes, billion) in the “ReArm Europe” strategy that sets out to prime the EU for war. It’s an incomprehensible sum of money, particularly as the EU is gripped by multiple crises right now, including the housing crisis, the cost of living, and now the fuel crisis (a direct result of war).

There’s always been something different about Bryan Johnson. Unlike the Elon Musks or Peter Thiels of the world, his pie-in-the-sky antics pose a much greater threat to himself than to the rest of society. As a man obsessed with hacking his body in order to live forever, Johnson often gets filed away as a self-absorbed aristocrat rather than a crooked plutocrat (well, except for the abandoning-his-fiancée-when-she-got-breast-cancer thing.)

Yet with a net worth in the nine-digit range, Johnson — who was an early investor in Futurism, though his involvement ended years ago —didn’t exactly get ahead by sharing, a fact one woman was keen to call him out on during a meeting on Surrounded, a debate show hosted by Jubilee Media.
