I worry that a complete lack of coordinated recovery plan for the fires in Oregon is just opening another door for western juniper trees to carve a larger niche for themselves. Eroding soil, stalling the carbon cycle, and locking up the ecosystem's potential.

Pitcher plant update. The Nepenthes 'Miranda' just opened up such a big pitcher 🥹 I'm very excited for it to keep growing larger and larger omg. The x ventrata continues to recover after I didn't water it enough earlier this year and half of it died.

We have a lot of cool habitat regeneration going on around our home and a lot of incredible plant life, but this is the one guy that has me feeling the MOST excited. It's a cotton thistle, O. acanthium, and it's a horrendous invasive species the likes of which few can compare in dry-summer regions.
Organizing last year's harvest of painted mountain corn into two batches: One that is just great quality kernels, and then another organized into kernels that are white, light blue, pink, and any which have tri-color genes, so we can eventually breed trans colored corn.
I even got a photo of the warbler which is super exciting because omg it's like a lime green/yellow bird omg and we've been hearing it but never seeing it before now. A+ photo too.
All these in like 10 minutes 💕 The only ones i didn't see with my own eyes were the wrens, purple finch and the nuthatch! I love making habitat to support them omg more birds.
