Even under a highly ambitious scenario involving €200 billion per year 💰 and the large-scale deployment of emerging technologies, less than 2% of ongoing PFAS emissions and their precursors (based on ECHA estimates) could be removed from the environment.

We need an industrial strategy that supports safe, sustainable chemicals - not fossil-based chemicals industry, dressed up as industrial strategy. We need to stop handing privileged access & influence on the very companies that created the global pollution crisis we're living in.
Crucially, the EU's draft list of "critical" chemicals includes hazardous substances like benzene, PVC, titanium dioxide and hydrofluoric acid (a PFAS precursor). Ignoring toxicity and environmental harm risks rewarding the dirtiest production with public funding.

The CCA will define which chemicals and production sites are considered “critical” - and eligible for future public funding. But from the outset, the chemical industry has played a leading role in shaping the criteria. So those most likely to benefit are writing the rules.

This the second national Social Climate Plan approved by the EU Commission, after Sweden. Most countries are still late with their planning. The Fund uses EU carbon pricing revenues to support households hit hardest by rising energy bills. As we can see, a win-win for climate and social policy.
