my annual ‘attend sports’ day, currently pondering why umpires can’t just have padded chairs rather than have to inflate a cushion :)
our station used to be nicely covered in astroturf this time o year, but last couple years whoever shelled out for that decided not to:(
meanwhile in zurich a surprising lack of competition for this shady spot. maybe everyone by the lake ;)
there was an ‘ultra’ race going on today so walkers carefully picking way over steep rock etc had runners flying by :)
much to own surprise did the climb halfway up the Hornliweg today (which is technical enough it makes the ascent weirdly easier bc you can’t hurry). reached the familiar sign and then no higher bc alpine blue trails without a rope , nope nope :)
warm on the trails today when one wasn’t in the woods. and also preparation afoot for the Zermatt marathon tomorrow, for which people seemed be training (isn’t it better to rest the day before?) running up and down mountains at all let alone in heat, you’d have to be out of your tree:)
sound on for a restful 25s. this is the Gorner gorge near Zermatt, can’t recommend enough if you get the chance. never seems very busy least when i’m here, can sit by that pool for ages mostly undisturbed (may be different august)
up by the glaciers today. it’s a great trail and v doable in good weather the location does mean a lot of non walkers go down it, meaning an ‘idiocy in mountains’ contest would have many entrants
was pottering along trail earlier and came to section where trail setter had clearly thought ‘um ok right we need a rope here’, with the result that i spent five mins thinking err yes this actually is v exposed :) (didn’t need the rope but i think someone without good gear would. or in wet)
my carefully chosen ‘not too serious’ trail route has successfully moved my legs from mildly aching to ouch-ouch-ouch on stepping , worth it tho :)
the dam is always impressive even if familiar with it. couldn’t cross today bc people working on there
from the Matterhorn Trail earlier. north face overlooking, the ridge to the left is the ‘normal’ route (which supposedly doesn’t require much technical skill, but i went over in a heli once and it looks um terrifying up top:)
