Congress should abide by the laws it imposes on others, including those that protect employees.   I introduced my bill to subject the legislative branch to the same workplace laws that protect employees in the private sector and executive branch.

I’m outraged by the Oversight bill passed today, which would be the most consequential rollback of DC's home rule authority in modern history.   I'll keep fighting to stop this radical, undemocratic, and unworkable bill from further advancement.

Oversight will mark up a bill today that would strip DC of authority over its own tax code, preventing the District from cutting taxes.   This bill would be the most consequential reduction in DC's authority to govern itself in the modern history of DC home rule. Remarks:

Eligible voters in fed custody can't exercise their fundamental right to vote unless they're given information on how to cast a ballot.   I introduced a bill with Rep. Pingree to require BOP to provide info on registration & absentee ballots to people from jurisdictions that allow them to vote.

There's an urgent need to protect DC's drinking water & infrastructure from critical vulnerabilities, and today’s committee-passed WRDA takes significant strides to address these issues.   I’m pleased T&I voted to maintain several critical provisions I got included to benefit D.C.

I introduced a bill to prohibit new fencing at the White House.   A nation confident in its ideals doesn't wall off the institutions that carry them out from public view. Rather, it puts them in full view and remains open to the people it serves.

I introduced a bill to protect DC public servants whose retirement benefits were cut by the 1997 Revitalization Act.
 My bill fixes technical retirement gaps for dedicated teachers, police, firefighters and judges, ensuring they receive the federal pension benefits they earned.

More fencing would send the wrong message by continuing to transform our democracy from one that is accessible to one that’s exclusive and fearful of its own citizens.

As I've done for the Capitol and SCOTUS, I introduced a bill to prohibit permanent fencing at Lafayette Square.   Public property should be open to the public. We should not leave citizens to peer at their own democracy from behind fences when there are less restrictive ways to achieve security.

I introduced a bill to preserve 22 Civil War Defenses, which include forts, batteries and rifle trenches which created a ring of protection for DC during the Civil War, located in DC, MD and VA.   These defenses should be preserved for the benefits of education & inspiration for future generations.

On no other holiday is our nation's inequitable treatment of DC more deeply felt than on July 4th.   #DCStatehood won't come under my watch, but my hope is that I've equipped the next generation of DC's leaders to finally achieve what the 700K residents of our nation's capital have always deserved.

If we want people leaving prison to be stable, productive members of their communities, we must ensure their physical and mental health struggles are addressed while they’re incarcerated.   I introduced a bill to prohibit BOP from charging copays for health care visits.

I filed several common-sense, pro-DC amendments to the FY 27 NDAA at the Rules Committee.

People Magazine has named my legislative assistant Raya Kenney as one of its “Heroes Among Us.”   As a 5th grader Raya contacted my office with the idea for a bill to honor Women who Worked on the Home Front in WWII. I introduced the bill, which was signed into law in 2023.

Security is not only about reducing lives lost. It's also about safeguarding the institutions, freedoms and values that anchor our country.   I introduced my bill to create a commission to recommend ways to maintain our tradition of openness while responding to security threats.

DC's local courts have faced a perpetual judicial vacancy crisis because nominees are stuck waiting for Senate confirmation while the Senate prioritizes confirming federal judges.   Today, Senator Van Hollen and I introduced a bill to streamline the process and improve access to justice.

Federal officials deployed thousands of National Guard personnel into DC without the consent of the District's elected government.   Recent reports and videos raise serious questions about the Guard's conduct in DC, and I intend to get answers.

Sexual harassment remains a pervasive problem in workplaces across the country.   As the first woman to chair the EEOC, I introduced my bill to create a national commission to combat workplace sexual harassment.   Workers shouldn't bear the burden of exposing these failures alone.

I'll question GAO Director Collins this morning about progress implementing recommendations from a helicopter noise study I got included in the 2024 FAA reauthorization.   Helicopter noise can be damaging to health, quality of life, and even the structural integrity of homes.

Every Memorial Day our nation honors the servicemembers who made the ultimate sacrifice for American democracy, yet DC residents have fought & died in every American war without enjoying those very rights at home.

At a time when polarization and partisanship are causing legislative gridlock, I'm pleased that the bipartisan surface transportation bill we're marking up today includes many victories for the nation and its capital.

The Trust for Public Land's annual ParkScore rankings are out, and DC is ranked the #1 best city for parks in the country.   Parks cover nearly 25% of DC, which means we have more parkland per capita than any other city in the US.

My constituent, Haitham Arafat, was detained by the Israeli Navy as part of the Global Sumud Flotilla. The U.S. is obliged to protect its citizens abroad. I am working to bring him home, and I will continue to work with colleagues in Congress to provide humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Today’s Oversight markup will be the 5th time this Congress that Rs have wasted our time on anti-home rule bills designed to interfere with DC traffic policies, a petty fixation Rep. Perry spends much of his time on — to the detriment of his constituents in PA.
