Two chicks didn't go in the coop last night & I wasn't going to look for them, but I glanced up & they were parked directly over my head on top of the run, so then I had to spend the remainder of my life force for the day on chasing them into their coop.
Oh good, the air quality today is merely "very unhealthy", and we actually have it better than every single town to the north, east, & south of us. Been thinking further about how no place is truly a "climate haven" because no matter where we are, we all still have to share the same air & water.
#24 - The Gone World by Tom Sweterlitsch. Hot damn. I don't usually go for thrillers, but this SFnal thriller about time travel rocked my socks. CW for gore & uhhh the apocalypse? I'm struggling to explain it the same way the cover copy struggles. It's also a murder mystery. Love the complexity.
#23 - City of Last Chances by Adrian Tchaikovsky. Love a good dark fantasy about a city that sucks & everybody who is still trying to live in it. This one has been conquered by a brutal foreign empire, just to make things extra miserable. It's not a happy story with a tidy ending. And it's a series!
I went through a period of having very little time for garden shit right as it got hot & everything started growing ultra-fast. So this morning I finally took stock. I don't think any ground cherries sprouted at all. Maybe the wildlife ate them. Anyway check out the Very First Ripe Blueberry
Garden: good news & bad news. I guess that's every garden? But it looks like my "ground cherries" aren't ground cherries at all. I was suckered by a similar leaf shape & sprout site. I was suspicious but I've been so busy & distracted & tired & sick that I could follow up. It's frickin' velvetleaf.

#19, 20, 21 - lumping these all together. They're written by the Coheed & Cambria guy & the books parallel albums. Epic space opera, space magic, gore & ultraviolence, nearly impenetrable level of lore: Fun! I will say the first one was...not great, but the sequels were enjoyable.
Swore to myself I was going to expand my culinary horizons this week. We had a bunch of volunteer mustard greens sprout in the disturbed dirt of the torn-up front walk, so I watered them all spring, Ernest & I harvested them in stages, & tonight I blanched them all at once for pesto.

#18: Ignore All Previous Instructions by Ada Hoffman. Ok as a fellow queer autist I felt very uncomfortably Seen at some points but this was great in general. Prompt engineer Kelli is underestimated & infantilized by everyone around her all the time until she's sucked into a life-changing adventure.

I will admit I rushed to Goodreads to see if anyone had replicated the reviews she put right in the book but I refuse to do it myself because I wanna say 5 stars.

#16: Notes from a Regicide by Isaac Fellman. What a profound, messy, fragmented story of two fascinating and eccentric artists, told by the adopted son they never expected. It's only incidentally SF, with a timeless quality that could place it anywhere between the Renaissance & 2,000 years from now.
Am I watching Atlas again? No comment. Still hilarious to me how incredibly down bad this general is for our protagonist the entire movie
