Reading through the comments of the Substack release post, it’s very clear: writers don’t want this. They see the ‘partnership’ for what it is: another attempt to shove AI down our throats.
We’ve said it once and we’ll say it again: judging style for “AI-tells” is not a reliable way of adducing human vs. AI-generated work, especially given the grave consequences of getting it wrong (e.g. loss of trust, deplatforming).
Despite Pangram’s insistence to the contrary, there are dozens if not hundreds of studies that indicate AI verifiers turn out false positives and negatives all the time. (See: www.theguardian.com/books/2026/j...) Substackers are running their own work through Pangram to prove it.
Style is what makes your voice unique, original, and all your own (read: AI could never)! Every week, we’ll share some Writing Insights from the canon’s finest. This is #howIwriteWednesday. Every writer has their own quirks, flourishes, and... fixations. ahem D.H Lawrence 👀 (mommy issues much?)
Grifters generating metric f*cktons of slop and bogus biographies about people without consent is absurd, wrong, and, unfortunately, predictable. (See our article all the way back from 2024! ellipsus.com/blog/the-dis...) 🧵👇 (🔗 www.nytimes.com/2026/07/16/t...)
Custom Themes take personalization to the next level 😍 Themes carry over to the Reader, so you can create the perfect ambience for your audience. You can even use them as backgrounds for your snippets! Try Ellipsus Plus free for one week (no payment info required) ➡️ ellipsus.com/pricing
Another smol but mighty update this week: You can now change the email address associated with your account directly from your Settings page. Just enter the new address via Change email under Account details. Done n' done!
Collapsible headers are free for all, and work in the editor and Reader links, so you can use it while writing, outlining, and editing; or to help your readers stay focused on one section at a time. Free for all, woohoo! Oh, and one more thing...
Turn them on in your Editor settings ('Toggle headings'), then click / tap the arrow beside any H1–H4 header to tuck that section away, safe and sound. When you create a new header, just hit Enter, and it’ll become collapsible too.
A new option for anyone with a veeeeery long doc or complicated outline - Collapsible headers! 🎉🎉
