Dad, teacher, writer, dreamer. Probably a hobbit. Posting images of the natural world, thoughts about food & gaming, reflections on parenthood, and the ravings of the seedship colony stranded on an alien world in my mind to relieve the stress.
I did get some excellent camping in this weekend, the line of storms passed just north of me to the point where I felt the wind and heard the thunder and saw the leading edge but got no rain. #hammockcamping
How about instead we talk about how Chuck Grassley literally plotted to overturn the election by forcing Mike Pence out of the picture, thereby throwing certification of the electoral votes to the house. Nobody gives a fuck about his vacuum cleaner, The Hill @thehill.com
I made this! Cherry pie with a little bit of peach added. It felt good to make a crust, I still got it y'all
If you see this, we IMPLORE you to post a picture from whatever device you are using without explanation.
It doesn't have to be this way. People shouldn't have to die over traffic stops. Judges shouldn't have to lose their careers for doing the right God damn thing. What the fuck is wrong with these people
I'm sitting at one of my very favorite places to sit during the summer of the pandemic, and in the heat wave & historic drought it's still a pretty great spot
Heat dome crayon science for preschoolers! Guess which one had water, oil, or nothing (control)!
Unsolicited deck pic of my finished product. Paint the deck itself a couple years ago & let the vertical panels weather; fairly pleased overall.
Post a book you love from the 80s. No explanations, no reviews, just covers. Dan Simmons' Hyperion
The shiny haul is pretty low for this event for me, but high quality. Three out of four new shiny dex entries! #WildArea #pokemongo
Full moon, and only three candidates for the three seats on both school board and town council. Fortunately all of them are endorsed by my local pape. We're just going to keep on keeping on it looks like here in the Paris of the Piedmont.
I'm just sitting in my car, with the seat buckle still on, listening to the pattering rain on the roof. I have returned from getting my meds refilled, which had run out last week. And I'm just trying to hold on to my last shreds of sanity. And I miss my goddamn dad #whatkindofadayhasitbeen
Spent my Saturday evening with a dear friend, camping at Jordan Lake. It took the edge off the last few weeks, and buoyed me for a stretch. I tried hammock camping and... LOVED IT! Slept like an absolute baby.
When your almost 10 year old son asks you to get him a copy of the Odyssey for his birthday, you go all out. Absolutely rocking the friendly local bookstore swag because #fuckjeffbezos and also @flyleafbooks.bsky.social is AMAZING
Last night, after a dinner of ramen and lentils, I was relaxing on my stool in front of the shelter when I caught a substantial shadow drop down out of the corner of my eye. I got out of the way just in time to see an orb weaver (the size of my THUMB) attach another anchor point to my stool!
Amidst the chaos of the weekend, we did successfully implement a new screentime-earning paradigm for the boy, I helped him design his Ravenfolk (kenku) bard in @titancraft.com , and we saw Superman at the Lumina. Folks, I am wrung the fuck out #parenting
Carolina summer means pop-up evening thunderstorms. On Wednesday I drove home to see the leading edge of that evening's blow-through, just wild in terms of sculpted cloudscape fluid dynamics.
A project nearly 3 years in the making is finally complete. Behold, my goodest boi. #pokemongo
Last night I made shin ramen black for dinner at the campsite, but I added some sloppy jane (ground turkey) from Fridays lunch at work and it turned into a thick and hearty stew. This morning it was oatmeal with the remnant of a bag of trail mix, resulting in a delicious sludgy chocolatey paste.
We started our self-portraits for the year end in our preschool class today. I feel like I did okay
Pollen levels are literally at an all time high in central NC. So I guess this shouldn't be a surprising sight. But the phenomenon still astounded me, driving north yesterday, engulfed for multiple hours in a vast, pulsing cloud of yellow.
