Ilkley this morning for the Windles. Writers’ group for me. Spiderman movie for Mrs W. #booksky #writingcommunity
RIP Ann Bogan of The Marvelettes / New Birth / Love Peace & Happiness. #soulmusic #motown
Acting the goat. At the monastery on the top of Puig de Maria, Mallorca. 30 degrees and 5 litres of sweat later. #writingcommunity #travel
In a Headingley cafe today, drafting the latest chapter for #WhereTheOliveTreesGrow. Time to put the UK government's complicity in genocide and its general morally questionable history of Israeli allegiance under the microscope for the next couple of months. #readpalestine #books #writingcommunity
Memories of San Francisco, 2015-ish. When we were in Chinatown we met the guy who used to be Frank Sinatra's barber. They probably all say that, though I think this one was the OG. #sanfrancisco #travel
30k crafted so far for the #WhereTheOliveTreesGrow book project. This month’s mission: a deep dive into events that led to famine in August. Usual suspects: the GHF, a 12 week complete blockade and repeat displacement with an IDF surge isolating civilians from aid. #writingcommunity #Gaza #books
Soul singers promoting great books... Sandra (King) Stewart with husband Robert in sunny Texas. She kindly helped me out with promoting House of Broken Hearts: The Soul of 1960s Nashville. Available here: ko-fi.com/s/dd3497ac1f #books #writingcommunity #soulmusic
Monday morning greetings! #writingcommunity #books #WhereTheOliveTreesGrow @followers @highlight
Landed this morning. JC’s book was part of the general quid pro quo. #books #writingcommunity
Coming soon from author Martin MB Gavin! Was honoured to be asked to review a draft of an early manuscript last year. If you're a northern soul fan, you're in for a treat. Read all about it here: windlefreelance.com/2026/07/14/c... #MusicHistory #northernsoul #soulmusic #writingcommunity
Sun (and sunflowers) on this morning's constitutional. 25 degrees by 10am.
A good time to highlight my Crowdfunder campaign for use of the work of Palestinian artist Laila Kassab on the cover of my next book. All proceeds from the cover campaign will go to Laila. Full info on the book, Laila's background, donations (and rewards) at www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/book-cover...
Up for grabs: a 1966 Eddie Floyd performance contract for the Delmonico Ballroom, a Dallas Texas venue. One to frame for the record room. £15 plus £5 post (UK only). DM if interested. 100% of proceeds will support the work of Laila Kassab, a Gaza artist, whose talent I'll be using for my next book.
We're in! Without question the best day of the week. After nearly 5 years of detective work, painfully slow processing and bureaucratic nightmares, that’s all the Windles now sorted. Thanks to everyone we dragged in as witnesses, including my mum’s Catholic priest!
Most days my route takes me past an outdoor chess set in Leeds. Today I stopped to watch this game. The neat thing is how it draws the community together in a non threatening but permanent way. Complete strangers come to play each other or watch; people of different ethnicities, ages and classes.
Clickbait from The Times yesterday. But their suggestion that ICC prosecutor or the upcoming UN secretary-general vacancy may be career options for Starmer's next move is sublime irony. Bit late for Keir to return to the human rights sector when he should be sitting in a glass box at the Hague.
Back to work… #writingcommunity #booksofinstagram #WhereTheOliveTreesGrow #books
Funny how picking up an old NAACP membership card on eBay can lead you down rabbit holes. Here I explore the dark history of Schley county and the motivation behind one woman to become an activist and a community leader. #writingcommunity #CivilRights Article: cultura.me.uk/2025/10/24/t...
RIP David Hockney. I know he travelled the world and lived in many places, but I guess West Yorkshire was his spiritual home. And the Windles were in Saltaire just a couple of weeks ago.
My latest WiP, “Where The Olive Trees Grow" needs a cover. Currently in discussion with Gaza artist Laila Kassab re using her work. Maybe even crowdfund a new commission. Watch this space folks. #booksky #books #writingcommunity
One in five living in post-conflict environments have mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety and PTSD. In this month's piece for Refugee Biriyani & Bananas, I explore some of these activities. Read the full article in comments. #Gaza #SudanCrisis #HumanitarianAid
Daughter's first piece for Cultura, inspired by her travels around North Macedonia. Read "Skopje: From Brutalism to Balkan Identity" here: cultura.me.uk/2026/05/20/s...

Mood boards! The next book is still very much a work in progress and its release is a long way off, though that doesn't stop me tinkering with cover ideas. Mind, the Lorem Ipsum mockup is a bit Sycamore Gap. That's AI suggestions for you. #wheretheolivetreesgrow #books #writingcommunity #gaza
In The Hundred Year Hunger, I referred to some of its history. But let’s see if our complicit UK government, or its state controlled media make any acknowledgement that tomorrow, Friday 15th May, is officially Nakba Day. #Nakba #thehundredyearhunger #writingcommunity
