Great improvisation! I didn't want to deal with a huge and heavy rectangular dutch oven for batards so I put together a baking shell on top of a steel. Works great. Keeps the steam in almost as well as a dutch oven.
Ha ha! I don't blame her. However, can't get this one to come in the house when it snows. She loves the cold white stuff - even when it's belly deep. Stay warm & safe!
I'm currently in Portugal. Everybody shops at these local farmer's markets. No one bats an eye at the imperfections of the ultra-fresh produce - they just appreciate the freshness and quality of the flavors. Americans need to get reacquainted with *real* food.
Aw - that's sweet. Bread baked in a dutch oven is ideal - and easy! I bake sourdough in one. Turns out perfect every time.
