Virginian turned Washingtonian turned Californian come full circle to Virginian again. Getting reacquainted with southern accents and being called ma'am a lot.
I had to go there. But at least there was someone who indulged my inherent GenX lack of motivation to put too much energy into caring by writing a very GenX response so I didn't have to.
Cville folks: Bypass wetbound has a tree completely blocking the road just past Barracks. Eastbound has one lane open. At least one vehicle hit (that driver appears uninjured, not sure if there are others as my view is blocked by EMS vehicles). 1/2
Actually did the thing via mail in ballot a couple weeks ago, but there's no sticker for that. (Today's red tee notwithstanding, I voted in the 🫏 primary, not the 🐘 primary).
If you're able, get on out there and find a blood donation center or drive near you. Here's me donating about a month ago and I already have my next appointment scheduled.
@cardinalnews.org does great work and I support that work with regular donations. Unfortunately, this AI slop map is way below their standards, moving ROA and RDU clear across their states and not *quite* getting most of the other locations right, either.
Post a perfect album from the 90s that isn't nirvana, soundgarden, pearl jam, or alice in chains. @billybragg.bsky.social @jefftweedy45.bsky.social
Virginia DEQ site is updating air quality readings more frequently than the IQAir site/app. This is probably the most accurate measure of Charlottesville air quality (the site is at Albemarle High). www.deq.virginia.gov/air-energy/a...

Apocalyptic air today, but we're still out here ensuring patients can access safe and legal health care services. #abortionishealthcare
Interesting range in the local sensors. I follow the one from DEQ at AHS (61) since it's closest to home. Was surprised the readings were still in the yellow, but yours and one other are in the red. I never deleted the IQAir app after my CA days, but this is the first week I've needed it here!
This is an important piece. Infuriating, and important. prospect.org/2026/07/02/w...
Please sign my petition to Congress to pass a law that if you manufacture something as banal as a remote control, it must take either AA or AAA batteries. This post brought you by the A23 battery that my ceiling fan manufacturer thought was a good choice instead.
One of many cool things about public libraries is that you can request that they purchase an item. I asked JMRL to add this one to the collection a few months ago when @tressiemcphd.bsky.social mentioned it. Just finished it and it's a fascinating one!
How I spend Friday mornings, even when it's hot AF: ensuring that patients seeking healthcare at Planned Parenthood feel welcome and safe.
I'll take "colors that can't possibly occur in nature but actually do" for $400, Alex.
Go to Assateague, they said. Enjoy amazing views! Dodged the rain, at least, and the fog did lift a bit during our time there.
Whew, @tressiemcphd.bsky.social hits another one out of the park. 🎁🔗 www.nytimes.com/2026/05/15/o...
Pretty sure I got this for around $6 at Bodo's recently. Super excited for the private equity enshittification of bagels (though hopefully they'll consider C'ville too small a market to bother with). www.nytimes.com/2026/04/14/d...
Got drugs? This Saturday 4/25 is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. Find your closest location here to safely dump those unneeded Rx meds. www.dea.gov/takebackday
I'm still a noob at bird ID but I think that's a she. Looks like a female house finch. Typically it's the male birds who have to maintain the beauty standard in the avian world!
