The Mpls Fed has repeatedly posted this article, never once acknowledging that maybe, just maybe, they should collect the perspectives of people who are NOT landlords & owners. "CoMmUNitY EnGagEMenT" 🤪 Also, believe it or not, rent stabilization & zoning are not the only housing policy changes.

Excerpt from article, with my highlight:
*While we don’t have hard data about what caused this drop*, the property owners and developers we interviewed feel that rent stabilization has had a profound effect on the market. One property owner told us that it “feels like Saint Paul has gone back to being sleepy. Development is not as dynamic as it was before rent control.”

Manufactured home bill of rights: A bill that would have capped rent increases at 3% for residents of manufactured homes cleared the Senate but failed to advance out of committee in the tied House. The bill also would have given residents of those communities the first chance to buy them if they were put on the market in an effort to limit private equity ownership.

I don't recall this guy being relevant for the past 20 years. So it's not surprising he has suddenly popped up in support of Klobuchar.

Former Minnesota DFL chair Mike Erlandson said Klobuchar’s plan shows she recognizes the value of working with Republicans when they bring forward good ideas.

“We’re in this place today where working with the other team seems like it’s the third rail,” Erlandson said. “I don’t think it will be the third rail for Sen. Klobuchar. I think she’s going to bring people together and drive change for the state of Minnesota.”

Frey's SotC speech: www.minneapolismn.gov/government/m... Housing section is almost entirely about development, but he states goal is for people to "stay in our city." Relevant tenant protections: just cause protections, meaningful rent stabilization & enforcement, eviction diversion programs, etc.

We’re making progress on this vision. We’ve made nation-leading changes in eliminating exclusionary zoning and we now require affordable housing units in all new market rate buildings. But we haven’t finished the job. To keep that work going, we have to take a hard look at the reality of the housing market right now and what we can do to help. Costs are up. Interest rates are high. And it’s harder for families to buy, rent, or stay where they are. That’s not acceptable, and we need to do our part.

Our goal is straightforward: make it easier to build, improve, and stay in our city. And this will be a main focus of mine over the next few years.
