Ichiro is going through a warmup routine for the Mariners alumni home run derby as if it’s a game. Playing long toss and throwing lasers from the warning track to the first-base line.
Tonight was only the third time in Yankees history in which both teams hit five or more home runs. One of the other two was this slug fest, featuring 3 home runs by Lou Gehrig!
A week after the Dodgers announced the signing of Jackie Robinson, Dan Daniel of The Sporting News wrote, "It is quite inconceivable that the story has received far more attention than it is worth. ... Robinson ... insofar as can be discerned, will never play for the Brooklyn club." Wow.

OTD in 2002, Angels shortstop David Eckstein hit a walk-off grand slam in the 14th inning to beat the Blue Jays. Even more remarkably, it was his second grand slam in as many days. Eckstein hit four for his career, or three more than Derek Jeter.
We welcomed a new member to the family this weekend. Her name is Eleanor Rigby, and she is perfect.
