New car depreciation is huge. Nobody in my family has had a new car. Buy-and-hold has worked out extremely well for us, and no we have not had to spend loads on maintenance. Weirdly, the UK road tax system favours us as well (emissions standards are grandfathered) But we need the plane:

Glenkerie wind farm, Scottish borders. Been somewhat controversial building turbines and pylons here, but much of the rest of scenery is commercial monoculture tree farms! Very empty part of the UK.

so here's you're classic solar cell. All the magic happens at the "junction": the part where the P and N layers touch. Light striking there is turned into an electrical potential between the layers; one side goes off the back terminal, the other side off the front terminal.
