Did a tiny(?) bit of housekeeping with some old hoarded paper shredding 😅 (I found a letter from the bank about when I turned 19 and no longer could get the youth bonus interest or something, that was a couple decades ago... listen, my mom told me to keep stuff incase I need it, it's her fault :v )

Pokémon Has Become What I Always Wanted Digimon to Be

Pokémon has become what I always wished Digimon could be.
I'm a huge fan of both franchises, and I think each has its own strengths. In recent years, Digimon has been doing a lot right with games like Cyber Sleuth and Time Stranger, along with some of its newer anime. But one thing I've always wanted from Digimon is fewer gacha mobile games and more games that let me build a lasting bond with a single partner Digimon.
Ironically, Pokémon has given me that feeling more than Digimon ever has.
I have Pokémon stored in HOME that I've owned since I was a kid playing Ruby on the Game Boy Advance, Colosseum on the GameCube, and every generation since. Some of those Pokémon have been with me for over 20 years. I can bring them into new games, use them in Champions to battle players around the world, keep them safely stored in HOME, trade them whenever I want, and even transfer Pokémon from GO into that same collection.
To me, Pokémon GO could have been the perfect foundation for a Digimon game. Imagine having one partner Digimon that's always with you, evolving over time, traveling between games, and staying on your phone no matter where you go. That's the kind of connected experience I've always wanted from Digimon.
There are so many things Pokémon has done that just seem like a natural fit for Digimon, yet Digimon never seems to commit to them. I know Pokémon is in a stronger position financially and can afford to experiment more, but it's hard not to wonder what Digimon could be if it embraced that same philosophy.
I love both franchises, but I can't help feeling that Pokémon has become what Digimon always had the potential to be: a series where your partner truly stays with you for years, across games, devices, and generations.

I really hope Bandai leans into that idea someday, because I think it's something that would make Digimon stand out even more rather than just trying to chase trends with another gacha game.
