Yesterday Barb and I were at Helping Hands Healing Sanctuary. Barb loves these gentle horses and spent time brushing and talking with them! It was a very special time! These horses are used in therapy situations for troubled humans as well as lonely elderly humans! 🌱 #PNWGardening

I stood on a chair in the cool of this nice cloudy morning, to give you a 3 dimensional feeling that I envisioned when I designed this deck and landscape in 2002-2003! I am thrilled that it all actually worked! Now I get to enjoy it with my big family and many friends! 🌱 #PNWGardening

As a small child in the then Belgian Congo, I wanted a treehouse! I climbed trees constantly! So when I turned 55 we bought this oldish home in Tigard, where I could create a space under a tree, (which I planted and pruned), to act like a treehouse! I am happy with the results! 🌱 #PNWGardening

This gladiolus looks so much like the wild ones we saw fas children in Rwanda and Burundi roaming the open hills. I wonder what the parentage of this one is? It grows and multiplies easily here! One in 5 years easily becomes 50 if one does not cut off the seed pods! 🌱 #PNWGardening

After spending a good portion of the afternoon staking tomatoes and tomatillos, I watered the community garden. We do it by hand as we have enough mulch that it only needs to be done twice a week. 🌱 #PNWGardening

My Eucryphia in full bloom! The honey and bumble bees are totally frolicking as they pickup pollen and drink the nectar! I was told originally that it would not grow over 10’ tall! Well it has doubled that in 20 years! 🌱 #PNWGardening

Well after my relaxing session in the scarlet chair, it called for an evening treat! My two favorite adult beverages, a little of Italy ( the Cynar) and Scotland( the whiskey) equal parts into a shot glass. I sip on that for about an hour! A full day has concluded, with 8 miles of walking! 👏🏿👏👏🏽👏🏼🎵🎶

This is a video of a portland soccer park. These executions conifers are all Metasequoias, they have beautiful light green foliage in the spring and then in the fall it turns a rusty orange and drops off! They were about 6’ tall in 1994 when our youngest daughter played soccer!

We watched our daughter’s family’s elderly dog Trevor for the 4th of July weekend while they backpacked the Cascades. He has arthritis and is very slow now. I tried walking him every day. He bedded down on the moss and ground cover under the ferns and Fuchsia while I worked. 🌱 #PNWGardening

After removing several buckets of soil, I inserted rocks into gravel creating crevices to plant rock garden plants that require perfect drainage and full hot sun! Stayed tuned as I add more plants! So far just the one Chamaerops and one Delosperma. 🌱 #PNWGardening

Some Chinese orange lychnis to warm up your day! I really enjoy these very reliable perennials! They are sterile however, and it is the dickens to propagate them!

Galfrey Lye Fuchsias, when blooming, make me think of Fuchsia rain!

Digging out the space and creating the space for the rock garden! I unearthed wonderful old garden soil and placed it elsewhere! 🌱 #PNWGardening

I have begun the project! I had to lift out the old drip line and reset it. Then transplant the Calylophus. Finally dig out the area to become the new rock garden. Now I can begin setting the boulders, gravel and cobbles! 🌱 #PNWGardening

These golden very fragrant Aurelian Lillys lean out so heavily that I annually stake them to keep them from falling or breaking off! Such wonderfulness and beauty! 🌱 #PNWGardening

My current project is to create a very well drained rockery habitat for a recently acquired silver Moroccan Atlas palm tree and a S African ice plant to play. Chamaerops humulus Argentia and Delosperma cooperii. 🌱 #PNWGardening

My grandson received the high honor of being asked and then accepting the request to display this flag at the Seattle FIFA event today around noon Pacific Coast time! So proud of him!
