1989, Global warming accepted without question by Thatcher, "the world must act without delay". 37 years of inaction later and we are seeing the effects of all those prime ministers who sold us out to the oil companies, every single one of them.
I'm on Hackney marshes enjoying the breeze in a hammock. Just got passed by another large group heading to the River Lea for a dip in last night's sewage overflow.
LiDAR maps are getting quite detailed. You can even see the landslip on east London's famous Alp. maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/...
A rare moment of the bus being preferable to cycling the currently closed for 3 years Newham Greenway. Currently heading to Custom House for the Lizzie line.
I see the whole of the Greenway in Newham is still on the map despite the 3 year closure of the central section. Highlighted here with an X at each end.
An historic night in #Newham this is amazing to see. @natehiggins.bsky.social A Green councillor, elected chair of the council. @newhamgreens.bsky.social
Rangers Road in Chingford is closed for a few weeks, I feel the urge to cycle to the forest just to be able to cross the road without dodging speeding cars.
It would work well in London, we have large areas with the same speed limit.
Newham have deliberately not allowed hire bikes, there was some fiddling around the edges about a year ago and Lime can now reach the western edge of the borough. But it's far from useful for residents.
I like to do my bit by getting Gemini (free tier) to create pointless single page apps for my amusement, if we all do similar stuff we can cost them a lot of money, don't tell it where the bugs are, just ask for different animals dancing.
Thanks, worth looking at that side of the park again, in my head that was a bigger zigzag. Not so many one-way streets on the western side too. I'm very aware of the Pelly Rd junction, I see the motorway crash barrier is still there.
Yes I'm on a bus, I gave up cycling Hackney to Plaistow at the beginning of the year despite it being my most regular route, I can't rely on the Greenway being open or diversions being safe. It now takes twice as long and involves a train and a bus. In good news I'm reading books again.
I've always found the BBC's lack of EU coverage suspect. Rewriting headlines and rearranging articles to change focus doesn't help. Both versions archived here: archive.ph/https://www....
The new cycle path on Pool Rd in the Olympic park diverts you towards gates that are locked when West Ham play in the stadium. This seems to happen every time I decide to go that way, this was Sunday.
Saw this earlier. The Newham Greenway will be closed by Thames Water for 3 years. There's no mention of who is closing it or for how long on the signs. The proposed detour is going to kill people and the council is silent.
Never pick the quiet exit at Stratford platform 11, it only goes to busier platforms, and in the other direction, the busy exit you avoided.
Compared to the Curly Wurly Bridge in Wiltshire it looks very nice indeed. www.google.com/maps/place/C...
A benefit of cancelling paid cloud services is finding this clip in my Google Photos totally by accident. I was able to take stills and use image search to find the title Maryada Ramanna. #cycling #selfhosted
Hi Will, are you aware of the imminent 3 year closure of the busiest section of the Newham Greenway? Are you happy that the A112 will be the diversion with no plans to make it safer?
