Something I've been thinking about a lot is when Neo and Trinity see the real sky for the first time after spending 2 1/2 movies fighting for their lives. And the sky is a brilliantly beautiful pink and blue sunrise that the matrix could never truly replicate 🥺 that's what it's all about

We start the first film with Neo living two lives. In one, he's an inquisitive hacker longing for something more, and the other an insecure corporate shell who seeks belonging. (picture: Neo with his back to viewer sitting at a desktop computer)

In this new world he's found himself in, he realized how much happier he is existing as himself, using a name that resonates with him, and alongside people who truly care for him. It takes several leaps of faith, but by the end of the first movie he finds the confidence to take control of his life. (pictured: Neo hunched over and holding his stomach; presumably looking towards Agent Smith. He says "My name... is Neo."

While Neo looks to his elders for guidance, they look to him to continue carrying the torch they've lit. Despite all the odds built against them, they retain the unrelenting hope that things can and should be better- for everyone. (pictured: Trinity and Morpheus standing side by side)

Through this community but most especially Trinity, Neo finds love. In a world that doesn't want you to exist , just the simple act of living and loving (romantically or platonically) is a form of resistance in itself. (pictured: Trinity and Neo laying together in bed, shirtless. Neo has top scars)

Cypher hasn' found solace or comfort in his life the way Neo has. And he fears the potential of things not turning out for the better. He believes his life would be better if he never left The Matrix to begin with. In his eyes, the hope Neo brings will only lead to heartbreak. (pictured: Cypher holding a slice of steak up to his mouth on a fork, saying "Ignorance is bliss...") But ignorance is NOT bliss! By reintegrating himself with The Matrix, he is giving the agents exactly what they want.

"The Matrix" teaches us the importance of being true to yourself, finding community that loves and accepts you, and holding onto the hope for better things. (pictured: two hands (trinity and neo's) reaching out for each other over top of the trans colored sky from Matrix: Revolution.)

A revolution won't always happen overnight. Even in "The Matrix" it takes three films for things to truly change. Continue to find things that bring you joy because when the oppressor is trying to strip you of your humanity- one of the most radical things you can do is protect that humanity no matter what. Find love, make art, tell stories, and remember that beyond the chaos there exists beauty.
