As I've said since the beginning of this nightmare, transphobia is inextricable from ableism. They are the same mechanism producing the same results for the same reason. Any disabled people throwing their lot in with transphobes are sowing the seeds of their own destruction.

Our local fash leader is very upset at the 'two-tier policing' because we don't get arrested as often even though we commit terrible hate crimes like calling them Nazis. In the early days, we had to add this to one of our signs after they tried to get us arrested 'under the equality act'.

So, election day is here at last good luck to my friends who are standing; I'm glad to know people who genuinely care about their constituents and who are trying to fix the injustice in our society.

To all the activists I know of whatever party (or none): I hope you enjoy today, exhausting though it may be Scottish politics is exciting these days, and who knows what the country will look like next time these elections roll around? Thank you for being part of the sea change that's happening, and for the commitment to an informed, engaged electorate. I was thrilled to see the recent study which showed that not only had political engagement not dropped off after the phenomenon of the Referendum, it has increased.

I saw a puffin! We were there at the wrong time to see lots of puffins but we saw one 🥰 Then we had a fish supper. Doug has much better puffin photos, obviously. Their call is adorable.

Yes, a bunch of us did spend the best part of 45 minutes catching an injured pigeon to take to New Arc Wildlife Rescue. They said it would be OK with a bit of time to recover. Poor wee thing ❤️

By my count, there were definitely three Nazis at today's Hotel-Shouting. Most of the people there weren't from Aberdeen, so I'm not sure about their numbers. All three were welcomed with open arms, one was given a microphone. They put up a fascist party banner. 1/

I am running into a new year

i am running into a new year
and the old years blow back
like a wind
that i catch in my hair
like strong fingers like
all my old promises and
it will be hard to let go
of what i said to myself
about myself
when i was sixteen and
twenty-six and thirty-six
even thirty-six but
i am running into a new year
and i beg what i love and
i leave to forgive me

Not this year.
I have so much to run away from but instead
I am stumbling, falling towards the threshold,
my hands stained with my mother’s ashes,
I am crawling, heart scraped raw
by fascist flashpoints.
I have lost too much, too many,
and through it all had to fight
for a world worth staying for.
Lucille please tell me how to love something
and leave it behind,
because I am looking over the line
into this new year,
my hands at my back
holding on to a home
I have always had
and will never belong to again.

Camera Roll, Christmas 2025

Because at this time of year I always
dug out photo albums,
flicked through memories not mine
to hear grownups tell stories of family
and friends I'd never had a chance to meet…
tonight, as bells toll
for Christmas Day
I scroll back through years
of midwinter feasts
watching as, one by one,
my own ghosts
reappear, smiling,
retake their seats
as if they just stepped out
to check if the snow had begun.

Framework for managing the response to pandemic diseases

Although previous arrangements focused on an influenza pandemic, as highlighted in the National Risk Register 2023: "any new pathogen transmitted by the respiratory route is likely to share characteristics with influenza in that it can spread rapidly via close proximity, can travel rapidly and there are few easy immediate countermeasures. It has therefore been a planning assumption that a plan for pandemic influenza would have considerable overlap with a plan for other diseases easily transmitted by the respiratory route". These reflect a reasonable worst-case scenario (RWCS) regarding impact to healthcare and wider services and the following generic assumptions should continue to aid planning:

it will not be possible to halt the spread of a new pandemic virus, and it would be a waste of public health resources and capacity to attempt to do so

the impact and nature of a virus cannot be known until it has emerged and affected a significant number of people, this means that impact predictions are an assumption as opposed to a forecast; the actual impact could be very different to that predicted

response plans must have a degree of agility and scalability to cope with a range of possibilities and adapt to a wide range of scenarios

despite the origin of the pandemic, it is likely to reach the UK very quickly, with sporadic cases and small clusters of the disease occurring around the country after only one or two weeks

the degree of pressure in different areas will vary, highlighting the importance of flexibility within the plan

while influenza treatments exist, effective vaccines (or treatments for a non-influenza pandemic) are unlikely to be available at the initial stages of response

For the next half hour, individuals kept trying to get past the barriers and into the crowd. It is pure luck that nobody was seriously injured. They have been crowing about their attack (occasionally remembering they're supposed to pretend to be the victims). 6/
