More fun with wet birds! We mist the birds (those who like it) every afternoon when it’s above 90 degrees. Tonka the red-tail hawk looks like a freshly hatched chicken when he drinks the water dripping from his beak. I told him so and we laughed. #hawks #redtailhawk #nature #birds

This is a baby pigeon. I don’t do songbirds and I couldn’t ID it - the beak was throwing me. I texted our partner songbird rehabber and she said if it feels like holding a heavy ball sack it’s a pigeon. It did and it is! 🪶 #birds

I’m a raptor rehabber in GA. The law against tree removal during breeding season was recently revoked. We have since received over 70 baby owls and hawks since April 1. It’s absolute insanity! All kinds of wildlife protections are being quietly removed, and I can personally vouch for the devastation

BABY SEASON IS HERE! This nestling barred owl was displaced when the tree containing his nest was chopped down. We will attempt to reunite him w his parents, and if unsuccessful, will place him with a foster parent. Right now he’s got a stuffie for company and a belly full of pinky mice. 🪶🦉
Have you ever seen a baby gopher tortoise eat a dandelion? This lil nibblet will grow for 10-20 years and will end up weighing around 18 pounds. Gopher tortoises are a keystone species and the state reptile of Georgia. They also moan with pleasure at juicy strawberries, just like me. 🐢
Nestling Great Horned owl successfully re-nested! Home owner says mom and dad come by often to feed. 85% of all raptors worldwide will not make it to their first birthday. My job is brutal, but moments like this are what we live for. Godspeed lil nugget, you made it! 🦉🦅🪶
Got a nestling Great Horned owl yesterday! Gonna fatten him up then drive across the state to re-nest him near his parents tomorrow. We think baby is ~2 weeks old as you can still see the egg tooth at the tip of his beak. Baby season has begun - please hug and/or feed your local rehabbers! 🪶🦅🦉
Got an injured adult bald eagle this morning. Finder said he “fell out of a tree.” Looks like he was attacked by another eagle, with blunt force trauma to the chest and a deep laceration on the nares. 🪶🦅
I motorboated the hell out of this beaver’s belly. Let me tell ya, there is nothing on earth softer and silkier than a sedated beaver belly. Good stuff.
