No kidding! At least on the high wing of the Catalina you can park another airplane beneath the wing (like this F6F), not a chance doing so on a Fortress 😄 #HistScaleModels
Albert, I recently picked up a 1/48 Tamiya Tomcat. It is clear they looked at the other kits saw their downfalls and engineered the ultimate solution. Note they opted out of the slats & flaps down option. The swing wing, nose to main fuselage and tail connections are very impressive 🤩
Moving along with my F-14A IIAF Tomcat applying the tried & true gear repair As part of the refinishing process on this Cat, I had to remove all the old glued parts I could. Drilled out the receiver ends & used a Low E guitar string as the mender pin (Back in tune.) #HistScaleModels #ModelAircraft
Back at my F-14A IIAF Tomcat applying a couple of different washes. Always cross my fingers at this point, that I have a good overall gloss on things as you can really muck up a lovely bit of work at this late stage if you’re not properly prepared 🤔 #HistScaleModels #ModelAircraft
This Weekend in The Hangar: For International Cat Day, I am in theme with a look back at my F-14A NSAWC "Flanker" Tomcat. You can see more detail of this special cat at: www.flypastrush.com/post/flanker... Have a Purrfect weekend 😺 #HistScaleModels #ModelAircraft #FinishedKits
This Weekend in The Hangar: For International Cat Day, keeping in theme with a look back at my F9F-2 Panther in VMF-311 Tomcats livery. You can see more detail of this special cat at: www.flypastrush.com/post/photo-p... Have a Purrfect weekend 😺 #HistScaleModels #ModelAircraft #FinishedKits
This Weekend in The Hangar: For International Cat Day, I thought I should stay in theme with a look back at my F-14A+ Tomcat in USN VF-74 BeDevilers Aggressors livery. You can see more detail of this special cat at: www.flypastrush.com/post/be-devi... Have a Purrfect weekend 😺
Great job using a plotter/cutter to make those markings, especially on such a small aircraft. I saw Rod initially with the Ray Ban Reds in the late 70’s In the mid 80’s they were the Ray Ban Golds & looked like this. The only Canadian civilian aerobatic team at the time (It’s an expensive venture)
Working on putting the IIAF markings on this F-14A Tomcat. Interesting 🤔 it has a mix of USN maintenance stencils on it as well. #HistScaleModels #ModelAircraft
This Weekend in The Hangar: Getting some Aircraft Maintenance upgrades to the crew in this latest build. Check out how the kit went together at: www.flypastrush.com/post/hangar-... #HistScaleModels #ModelAircraft Enjoy the weekend! 👋
Will see how it goes, but I might try to get them or at least one finished up this long weekend 🇨🇦 - Thanks FD Have a good one 👋🏻
Work on these two 1/48 RCAF P-51D Mustangs - City of Hamilton Squadron (Red) and - City of Winnipeg Squadron (Blue/Yellow) almost wrapped up with the panel wash on as well as the spinner colour applied 🐴 Slated for the final clear coat by the weekend 🤞🏻 #ModelAircraft #HistScaleModels
Further progress on my IIAF F-14 Tomcat 😺 project as the base Sand tone was sprayed to finalize the camouflage. Added the anti-glare so I could unmask it and see the results. Some touch up work but 👍🏻 #ModelAircraft #HistScaleModels
Thanks, and true enough Stef N. In a later project on an F-4 where I wanted precise placement of the chipping effect I used the masking fluid to good effect. Because it was 1/48 and applied with a toothpick the chip size was still appropriate for the requirement.
Thanks Paul, like most things experience improves the desired results, which involve quite a few variables. Due to the fine spray it will work well with smaller scales (this example is 1/48th). You can get very subtle results as I did on this Ki-46 visible on the right wing but exists throughout.
This Weekend in The Hangar: Chipping away at a build #2 - I've also experimented with the "Hairspray Method" of chipping on this G4M1 Type 11. It can net you a very finely chipped effect. See more on this method at: www.flypastrush.com/post/betty-1... #HistScaleModels #ModelAircraft #FinishedKits
In case you were wondering... I built up to that last display... Started with these types of shelving units ;) I am lucky enough to have the basement of my house completely 'Kitted Out" (now that the "kids" have moved away). www.flypastrush.com/display ✌️
That’s when you build the floor to ceiling shelves that dominates the room and lets everyone know you’ve turned into an obsessive model maker! 😂
This Weekend in The Hangar: Chipping away at a build - One tried method to get that worn look was experimented with on my Ki-84 Hayate (Frank). See more on this method at: www.flypastrush.com/post/frank-s... #HistScaleModels #ModelAircraft
Mid-week progress on the IIAF F-14 Tomcat 😺 as the Medium Brown got masked off and a coat of DarkGreen was added to the camouflage. #ModelAircraft #HistScaleModels
Funny you should ask, I just replied to someone else regarding this 😄 If you like RCAF Mustangs - These Leading Edge Decals are a must. I got the Eastern set and liked it so much I am going to order the Western set as well 😁 (Very reasonably priced too!) lemdecal.com
Did I mention that I am also working on these two 1/48 RCAF Mustangs..? RCAF P-51D Mustang - City of Hamilton Squadron (Red) and - City of Winnipeg Squadron (Blue/Yellow) Busy bench these summer days 🌞 #ModelAircraft #HistScaleModels
This Weekend in The Hangar: My Aggressor lineup continues to expand with the addition of another T-38 Talon. Check out the brief article on the build at www.flypastrush.com/post/aggress... #ModelAircraft #HistScaleModels Enjoy the weekend with a bit of Hobby time 👋
Started the upper camouflage tonight in an highly unusual fashion with the darker tones first. With this IIAF pattern it will be easier to mask off the dark strips & spray the light sand colour last. We will see how that works out. Progress on the IIAF F-14 Tomcat 😺 #ModelAircraft #HistScaleModels
A View from the Rafters: The Hangar crew makes preparations for some systems checks on the new German F-4F Phantom II. An outside engine test may be scheduled for later in the week 👻 😎 #ModelAircraft #HistScaleModels
Managed to get a few other projects completed enough to shift focus back to the Tomcat revival for a bit. Primed first, a bit of clean-up from there and then today got around to the underside camouflage. Giving it a used but still well maintained aircraft look. Hope you all had a good weekend 😎
This Weekend in The Hangar: Take Five - Aggressor lineup (CF-5D & CF-5A) #ModelAircraft #HistScaleModels
Onto the finer details of my MiG-29UB (which always takes a disproportionate amount of time to complete, however it does add to the effect) Now, if I can manage not to break them off every time I touch it, I may get it to The Hangar later today. The crew is anticipating its arrival. #HistScaleModels
Thanks FD, I do like this Faux Pas scheme (especially since it is a bit different) from my other Aggressor paint finishes ). I have the Lizard scheme slated for another later build as well.
This Weekend in The Hangar: The newest of the New Arrivals at The Hangar for an Aggressor lineup. CF-5D; T-38; T-38 #ModelAircraft #HistScaleModels
