As you continue the game you get more illustration pieces to play with, decor for your workshop and get to mix pigments to add colors to your repertoire. Plus the game promises to explore the narratives of your clients and you and your devil contract. So niche as this might be I'm a fan.
I dont mean I didnt find the game fun. Just this feels a lot like weird little digital collages I used to do as a kiddo with Print Shop and I never really thought of that as a "game" persay. But there are prompts to follow, rewards and an ongoing plot and I'm enjoying the whole thing.
You are approached by your long lost "uncle" who promises to help set you up with a shop and help your business along. Ignore the fact he's green. And that his friend has horns and smells oddly of sulfur. It's FIIIIINE. This is more plot than I was expecting for this game. So am delighted.
You play as a poor soul down on their luck. Due to a change in fortune you now are trying to eek out a living making and illuminating manuscripts. It looks like the different character backgrounds change some of the resources you start with. Which is a neat touch I wasn't expecting.
Last demo I got in this pile is Scriptorium: Master of Manuscripts. I've seen this one around and am a bit of an art history nerd so was interested and excited.
Take the dragon to town and now the loop of the game is - keep the dragon happy to farm its joy. While we also make the dragon join us in the "give stuff to sad adults" quests. Still no grandpa. AND HERE I TAP OUT. Not quite what I thought a game called Dragon Shelter would be. Silly me.
And we then put the dragon to work making jam for sad people. At least this makes me not have to do the crazy kitchen shit.
I swear if this game is just making crap for depressed people I'm gonna - wait. What's this. Holy shit. ITS A DRAGON FINALLY
Other than the foraging and farming mechanic we got cooking - bread and jam for the townsfolk. So they stop being sad. This is a multistep process - mill the wheat - get a bowl get water in the bowl light the oven. It's very complicated. And still no dragons.
You play a young beady eyed urchin who comes home to grandpa's farm to find it abandoned. Cue cutting down trees and picking berries. With the most terrifying chopping tree animation ever. You just - take one hand and swing the axe like a pendelum and hit everything in a 180 radius. It's mad.
Now I'mma look at Dragon Shelter. It looks cute and - I think you rehablitate dragons. So lets see if I'm right.
I'm not too excited about this. But I'm also jaded and old. It plays alright, and looks bright. Though the camera is way too twitchy. And some of the mission objectives felt very vague. Which can be fixed. But the main focus was clearly placed on the catalog of furniture. It's a fine demo.
I am not sure what age level this is for, but I'm sure my wee nephew would like this. It's very forgiving and simple, you whack large termites and collect stuff. The whole thing is based around furniture, save a chair, find a chair, build a chair. Decorate!
In a peaceful nearly storybook-land someting bad is maybe starting so the powers that be send a hero. An amnesiac mute axolotl to the land of Kindlerest. To beat up things and...find...furniture? So the hero helps a (gay?) orc and mole rebuild their slightly disheveled town.
Okay back to this -next up is Dungeons and Dining Tables. Yes I only downloaded this cause of axolotls. #videogames #gamedemos
