Sal is very, very slowly slipping off my lap. I'm torn between baby no fall and too cute to disturb nap
Best I've found dealing with Salvador is to keep something nearby to divert him from biting me and reward him biting that other thing. Usually this silvervine stick because he is as much puppy as cat
It might as well be - it came down for like 10 minutes and that's a lot of ice! 😂
Good suspicious morning from Frida, and a good leave me alone I'm sleeping from Salvador
My first fruit pie attempt! Room for improvement on the looks but hopefully tastes as good as it smells
Read the audiobook version of Psychopomp & Circumstance by Eden Royce and really enjoyed it! The cultural touchstones interwoven with fantastical elements and Phee's personal journey through grief, regret and growth all hit so hard. I would read more of Royce's stories in this setting anytime
It's so tasty! Perfect? No, but that just means more incentive to make another soon 😉
I've made a lot of gluten free bakes, but I've never really felt confident enough to go for a classic artisan loaf. Until today! Now I'm in the worst stage - waiting for it to cool to see if it came out well
Kicked off this month's reading with Friday Black, a short story collection by Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah. This one will leave its mark on me for a long time, and I think that's the way it should be.
May we all dedicate ourselves to our passions as much as Salvador dedicates himself to naptime
This was exactly what I needed today. Warm, spicy, delicious and oh so satisfying. Will def be making cornbread to go with it later
Fancy beans ready to head into my chili. Cooking always feels like a connection, even when it's just me in the kitchen
My emo teen cat Frida has been so cuddly lately. Even gifted me daytime per opportunities, which is basically unheard of for her
My first ever from scratch dosas and they came out so tasty! I'm so ridiculously proud of myself for this 😂
I tried a new recipe for my black eyed peas and rice this new year and it didn't come out like I'd hoped. Unrelated, I miss boudin balls. So eventually this happened and no I'm not sorry
Tea today is Honeyfairyland from Friday Afternoon Tea, a lovely yellow tea I found out about from Courtney Milan's newsletter Really enjoy this one, need to set aside time to have it more frequently
My mom used to make us batata poha on the weekend mornings and leave the pot to keep warm on the back of the stove. I feel a little closer to family whenever I make it. A little more loved, a little more vulnerable.
The reward for my patience! Wild chanterelle and corn chowder with shrimp
The holidays are always when I have the most time, energy, and mental umph to cook, so I like to make the most of it. Not just the glorious slow and involved labors of love, but the quick, simple, delicious, throw it in a pan dishes too!
First post-rinse steep - so dark! Very rich and smooth. I'm not fancy enough to really describe flavor profiles but one this makes me want to work on that
I always miss my dad more on Xmas morn. Him laughing as he made the world's slowest pancakes, us all around the table. Him wearing the same two festive sweaters for 20 years (truly!) Much love to everyone missing someone today. May you find joy in the memories and feel closer through the traditions
They liked it! Excited to get into cooking more over the holidays, both for others and myself.
This worked out so much better than it had any right to 😂 Bringing it to my Astral Circus crew this afternoon, and I'm reminded that there's nothing quite as nerve wracking as making food for people you care about. Here is my love for you on a plate, please enjoy.
A wee bit of cracking but I'm not at all mad at my first attempt at baked cheesecake so far! And if my stab at Toblerone ganache works out tomorrow, no one will ever know. Except the Internet which knows everything, obvs.
I have been having a ridiculously wonderful time playing my best thembo self in Astral Circus over on Happy Jacks RPG. Ezthe Perah, at your service
Just finished But Not Too Bold by Hache Pueyo and that was exactly the sapphic monster romance Gothic fairy tale that I needed today. Loves the writing style and world building, such a good mix of fantastic and horrorful
Picked up Leech by Hiron Ennes for my commute read and this book is exactly what I need for spooky right now. Love the narrator's performance as well, delightfully horrifying all around
