You know what makes me sad? This bullshit right here. “Non-GMO tea.” ALL tea is non-GMO. There is no GM tea on any market anywhere in the world. But this bullshit makes uneducated dingleberries afraid of something that doesn’t exist. It’s infuriating.
The extended polyamorous network is all traveling together to Reykjavik, Iceland in October. I had a romantic thought about this…well, a thought that started out romantic, anyway, until autocorrect arrived. Autocorrect is notably terrible at British slang.
Unhinged email of the day: another Gordon Scott Special. This guy “Gordon Scott” (lonelyplanet307@gmail.com) seems to have quite a history of sending Looney Tunes email like this. He definitely seems like a happy, well-adjusted person.
My wife, in a group chat, explaining how to prepare for a date with me. Honestly, water and snacks are probably a good idea anytime.
Holy cow, y’all! When my mom died of cancer a few years back, I installed the BOINC distributed computing platform on all my computers and started running the World Community Grid cancer gene marker project. I’ve now completed over a million(!) work units for the project.
The More Than Two site is intermittently slow to load right now. It’s currently undergoing the largest flood of attacks it’s ever experienced, ongoing for about the last twenty hours. My firewall and WordFence are handling it, but the sheer volume is slowing it down. #infosec
Sitting in the airport in Charlotte , NC, editing editing editing. My layover is so long, my flight home hasn’t even been assigned a gate yet, so I just parked in a random spot with a pen in my hand. This book is my life right now.
Wedged into my flight to Charlotte with my knees in my nose, listening to Sisters of Mercy and editing Spin. One of the hardest things about co-authoring this novel was having to steelman a social system of reproductive slavery I personally find morally repugnant. #AmWriting
Packing up to head back to Portland! What a mad, exhilarating, frightening, joyous, sexy trip this has been. My God.
It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a laundry basket in possession of clean laundry straight from the dryer, must be in want of a cat.
The campsite is warm and dry, there’s a nice little campfire going, the EL wire is making me happy, and my Talespinner is singing beside the fire. My God, if you could bottle the joy I feel right now, there might never be an unkind word spoken in anger again.
It’s kinda interesting living in an Age of Wonder. When I was a kid, EL wire didn’t exist, but if it had, I’d’ve been like “OMG this stuff is SO COOL, I can make so much stuff with this!” Now, as an adult, I’m like “OMG this stuff is SO COOL, I can make so much stuff with this!”
It’s astonishing how much of modern post-industrial life revolves around carefully shepherding small amounts of electrical charge.
Huge branch came down in the storm last night and just barely, barely missed crushing the tent and everything inside.
Spent a couple hours with a hairdryer carefully drying the manuscript. We lost about 4 pages of edits (note to self: edit in permanent waterproof pen!), but the rest was salvaged! One day, we will all look back on this and plow into a parked car.
The manuscript got drenched and some of our edits are smudged, but if he hadn’t insisted we put it in a binder, the whole thing would likely have been destroyed.
Our campsite just got hit by a driving thunderstorm and hail! The tent is flooded, our bedding is all soaked through, and it brought down branches on our tent.
My Talespinner Kitty Bound working on the fifth draft of our literary novel Spin out at the campsite. This book has been such a wild ride!
The fog is rolling in over the campsite, and, well, “that’s just Missouri,” they said. “Nothing spooky,” they said. “Pay no attention,” they said.
Reading this manuscript in print feels different, somehow, from reading it on a computer. The story gives a strong sense of place, and of the beauty and grandeur of the Dominionate, which makes all the more heartbreaking the fundamental rottenness and evil at its core.
The rain has passed, the day has gone all-in on gorgeous, and I’m editing! The view from the campsite is astonishing.
Spinning LED poi at night waaay out in the boonies where the night is actually dark.
Campsite is coming together! My Talespinner’s other partner, who excels at this kind of stuff, even made a little porch for the chairs. This will be our home whilst we work on the fifth draft of Spin.
Making camp in the rain! At least we got here before sundown. Otherwise we’d be making camp in the dark and the rain.
You guys! You guys! It’s the fifth draft of our literary novel Spin: 141,000 words/332 pages printed out. We’re going camping in remote Missouri to edit entirely offline; the feedback we’re getting from agents is we need to get it down to ~120,000 words. #AmWriting
