My bowl is back from the pottery painting place and it’s cute!

A ceramic bowl with cartoon cat legs propping up the bottom, a tail on the back, and a little fish on the front. The bowl is painted with what I believe are oxides that explode in color when they’re fired. The bowl’s inside is white with many orange and blue circles. The outside is a pink color with lots of blue and purple dots. The tail is yellow with a few small dots of color and the feet are a simple, regular orange.

Each part has a lot of little black dots which I think are colors that didn’t pop. Perhaps old paint?

I remembered I have free will and love dill pickles.

On a wooden cutting board sits a big homemade pickle pizza. It has a layer of olive oil infused with garlic, lemon, and dill and a blend of three white cheeses. There’s a somewhat golden yellow hue in places and I assume that’s because then oil rose into the cheese.

Saw a burial quilt by Zak Foster at the Henry Ford today. Really neat (and beautiful!) concept.

On a museum wall hangs a beautiful quilt with yellows, blues, whites, and floral greens. The pattern has a suggestion of upward arrow shapes without being too angular or geometric. To the right of quilt hanging is a television monitor showing a burial quilt in use wrapped around a laying, humanoid form in a forest. There’s an informational stand in front with notes about the artist, Zak Foster, and general education about what a green burial is and how the quilts are used for them.

Finally have enough cookies for the “my husband travels a lot for work” no bake cake

A glass baking dish loaded with whipped cream and Delta cookies laid out in rows and alternating in upward and downward DELTA letters. A red spatula lays to the side of the dish. The cake is two layers deep with 4x3 layers of cookies that fit perfectly.

Did a practice with my first actually good watercolor paint set. Disembodied produce and friends

A small watercolor study of various leafy things, mushrooms, and produce. The background is a desaturated dark blue with some orange bits especially prominent around the figures toward the top.

From left to right is a papaya sort of thing, an orange leaf that resembles a mango slice, a wine cap mushroom, a green leaf, a white daisy, an unknown orange trident shaped leaf(?), a small orange capped mushroom, and a strawberry.

Some of the colors bleed a bit between the figures and the background only covers most of the top and the center bottom. Light pencil sketching is visible in some of the figures.

The paint is primarily Daniel Smith fine watercolors with detailing done in Gansai Tambi watercolors.

Steeled by this magnolia

A selfie from underneath me pointed upward to capture the Magnolia tree above. My hair is especially wavy and with big volume. I have clear glasses, a decent looking beard and mustache, gray shirt, and an amusement at how I was taking the photo. The almost leathery texture of the leaves of the tree are visually distinct with varying natural medium to dark and brownish shades of green.

Finished making an Animal Crossing makeup bag for my friend. First time sewing an elastic pocket, doing box pleats, and making bias tape from scratch. I think she’ll like it. :)

A handmade, boxy zipper pouch with quilted Animal Crossing fabric. Various characters like KK Slider, Tom Nook, Isabelle, Blathers, and others are in a square grid arrangement on the print. The zipper is a dark bronze with zipper tabs at the bottom of each side — 2/3 of KK Sliders face is visible on a tab from this angle. The left and right sides of the bag near the zip curve inward slightly to support the boxy shape.

The makeup bag is open wide and has a bright, warm burst of yellow from the floral interior fabric. The left side of the bag has four slots - middle two big, outside two smaller - and the right has a large and wavy elastic pocket. The center of the interior is an open compartment that could hold a great deal of things. In front of the zip on the front and back is an interfaced fabric guard to prevent contents from spilling out when opened. You can see the character Celeste on the bit of the visible exterior.

I broke a sewing needle for the first time! Sad/lucky it wasn’t more dramatic

Something something Kimya Dawson tire swing

Me, upside down on a roped hoop almost tire swing kind of deal. My blue hat has fallen off to the side of the left midground. I’m wearing gray glasses, a comfy white and green button up, and black shorts. My hair is long past my ears and my beard and mustache look pretty good I think! There’s a sign in the foliage that reads “LAWNS ARE OVER”.

Finished my first larger watercolor piece. Meet girl on the train.

A watercolor painting of a girl in a blue sweater in a New York subway train. She looks out the window with her headphones on and a device in her hand. The window is a light gradient of cool blue. the seats around the girl are light, desaturated shades of orange, yellow, brown, or red to really emphasize the girl in the center. To either side are thick black subway ads with a light red background and only a suggestion of text.

Proportions are a bit off, especially with the subway ads, but it was very free handed. This is parasocial of me to say but the reference was a still from a Diana Ren YouTube video.

Finally meeting those impossible beauty standards

I’m taking a selfie in an art piece that has a wall of broken mirror pieces. While my reflection is mostly intact, the horizontal space where my eyes meet is completely missing with how the pieces are broken. My knees are reflected twice and my waist is a little snatched.

I’m wearing a white shirt with a black and white floral design that is interrupted by the breaks in the mirror. My hair is down over my ears and you can sort of tell I’m wearing gray glasses. I’m holding a white iPhone in a clear case.

You can also see a red candle to the right of the frame and a vintage wood spice rack full of spools of old thread off in the background.

Sour cream, chive, and onion biscuits. I’ve had two already 😊

On a black plate is two large golden brown and flaky biscuits. Fried chive pieces sit on top and you can see some oil on the plate. Behind the first plate is a second with one biscuit on it. They’re big biscuits!

I browned butter with spices and the chives left over from what I mixed into the dough and poured on top. I caramelized onions and put them in the food processor with sour cream and chives and then mixed into the dough before baking.

Found this baby in the photo bin at the creative reuse store

A cellphone photo of a printed photo. On a purple leopard bedspread are sheets of music with a brass trumpet placed next to them. A black shorthaired cat with green eyes is laying on top of the sheet music and is posing with a mix of delight and surprise while staring directly at the camera lens.

The cat’s eyes are a little overexposed from the flash of the camera and the whole styling screams ‘90s, maybe early 2000’s. Going to frame this for sure.

Had a Crafternoon with friends and sewed in a kitty patch behind a hole in my jacket.

A gray jacket with a hole a little larger than a quarter with a gray cat’s face from a patch peeking through. You could probably not notice the cat at a quick glance but it’s almost like a clever little Easter Egg for someone who is looking for more than a few seconds at a time.

This is what you risk getting if you ask me a simple question

A variety of the iceberg meme featuring the K-Pop group Loona. Divided into tiers that go from common knowledge at the top to deeply unhinged niche facts or fan theories at the bottom. My favorite part is “Olivia Killed Vivi” and on an entirely different tier “Yves killed Vivi”. Robot girl cannot catch a break. “Woomana” the cursed scripted Loona drama is also mentioned amongst like 45 other things over the iceberg.

An image at each tier level is on the right side. A screenshot of Chips Ahoy tweeting Stan Loona is a nice selection for the first tier.

A zipper pocket and my first welt pocket ever. Very jazzed to have put those in.

The inside of the tote bag. The lining is a black canvas. One side of the bag has a closed zipper pocket with silver metallic hardware. The other is an open welt pocket that should perfectly fit my friend’s iPad as requested. The welt pocket is the same cat fabric as the outer bag and it looks like some of the cats peek out of the pocket and some are sleeping inside.

I need to lint roll the inside before I give it to my friend as there’s a little bit of my cat’s white fur showing.. lol. At least it’s on theme.

Finished sewing a lined tote bag for a friend. Joyously, *it has pockets!*

He never lets me cross stitch in peace (positive)

I sit in front of an art stand holding an embroidery hoop with a very hefty piece of Aida fabric. My cat Coconut, a little orange and white cutie, faces the camera with his eyes closed contentedly as I pet him.

I’m growing my medium length hair out and it’s reaching alongside my ears and the back of my head. I’m wearing my signature green and white flannel from like fifteen years ago with some brown-gray glasses. On my lap (underneath the cat) is a pink blanket with a bunch of happy gray cat cartoon faces.

My husband took this photo from across the room and it kinda has a stock photo, “Oh I didn’t see you there!”, kind of quality. Coconut just looks too perfect.

Spent a lazy vacation morning posing and painting.

A watercolor sketch of me - sans toes, hands, and anything above my chin - wearing a blanket like a robe with no shirt on. The blanket is a mix of green, teal, yellow, and orange. Some body hair is lightly panted on my chest and legs. Pale skin tones provide a small contrast from the blanket.

The quality is okay! Proportions on my body and the blanket is a little off and dimension of the folds of the blanket are somewhat captured. The rest of the background is a blank white watercolor paper.

Good sticker watch today.

A parking structure level sign with three stickers on it. The first is a circular sticker reading “all the rich should run for are their lives”. There is a googly eye stuck to it.

The second is pretty peeled off but reads “hex the condos curse the cops gentrifiers off the block”. The third is a black silhouette of a trench coat guy that I swear I recognize but can’t place the reference to.

Having a Friday night MRI was not a blast but upside was seeing a hospital basement full of portrait quilts like this. Cool as heck.

Behind a glass display case is a 5x3 quilt with each quilt block being an incredibly realistic fabric portrait of people and/or animals, plants, or objects. Smiling couples, a woman with a dog in her lap, a woman in a hijab, medical professionals, etc.

There’s a peculiar pair of blocks where a grape vine covers both. On the left block a man is picking grapes from it. On the right a John Deere tractor is on the ground but it looks like the grape vine is sitting in it? Furthermore the grapevine is shaped like a T-Rex and I’m not sure if that’s intentional but from a distance it looks like a leafy dinosaur is riding a lawnmower.

Had a little cross stitch helper today.

I’m sitting in a pink chair doing cross stitch in my office with a pink cat blanket. My cat Coconut lays across my lap completely unperturbed by the craft stand holding an embroidery hoop over top of him.

Coconut is a beautiful orange and white cat who is always affectionate but especially so today. I’m in a black tee, my new gray glasses, and outside of camera view am working on a Jigglypuff cross stitch I started in like 2016.

Hell yeah, first try. So proud of how these came out.

A tray of freshly home-baked cardamom buns. They are shaped into a kind of knotted loopdeloop and are a pale brown color. The tops are brushed with a shiny egg wash and cardamom sugar is sprinkled on top. They are plated on a black serving tray with a floral motif in the center that I inherited from my grandma but have never used until now.

Just finished sewing a little quilted desk mat. The fabric was originally for a project for someone else but it was too cute to not keep for myself. 😊

The edges are rounded and covered with a black binding. There’s some messy cable management going on in the image but I’ve done my best to crop most of it out, haha.

For funsies I checked to see how much trying to fix my arm has cost my insurance over the last two years. We're onto surgery five next month and I'm no better than when I started. Wonder if I'll have the privilege of cracking 200k next year.
