Patient, plodding, a green skin growing over whatever winter did to us, a return to the strange idea of continuous living despite the mess of us, the hurt, the empty. The conference's dedicated panel on AI regulation struck a similar tone. Dean Ball, a former Trump adviser and the lead author of the administration's AI Action Plan, had little patience for most of the over 1,500 AI-related bills introduced in state legislatures. There was, he acknowledged, "a small subset of bills that grapple with things like catastrophic risk" that he supported. But rules against asking AI for legal advice, he said, were "stupid." There "probably should be a national framework" for catastrophic AI-risk reporting, he said, but "the goal of AI governance should not be to solve every profound and interesting question."

Ball, who is now a fellow at the Foundation for American Innovation, mused that AI might replace the Supreme Court, then the United States government itself. AI, he said, was "this giant acid vat" dissolving society's mediating institutions. "Future institutions will be machinic," he said. "It will not be AI in government. It's going to be AI as governments."

But was all this good? The Republic was "decaying," Ball said, and we're living in "very dangerous times." He was certain, though, that the AI revolution was coming - and if America didn't build superintelligence first, China would. He said he was a "techno-optimist and institutional pessimist." The reason America currently leads China in AI development, he explained, had nothing to do with the innovation ecosystem or even the rule of law. "It is because we have more computers than they do, and they're better," he said. "That's why." The U.S. needed to keep it that way.

How have you processed the war in Lebanon and Iran right now?

My dad was killed by Iranian proxies forty-two years ago. I have no regard for the Iranian regime whatsoever. But the answer does not lie in starting a war and killing innocent people. Imagine being a parent of one of the one hundred and seventy-five girls who died when their school was bombed. Their loss, their suffering How are they going to feel about America? Violence begets violence. We've seen it in Israel and Lebanon as well. There was an opening for Israel to handle their business with the Palestinians diplomatically that would have solidified the Abraham Accords and allowed stronger alliances with Arab countries that would have really cornered Iran. Instead, Israel sought revenge for October 7th and now seventy-two thousand Palestinians have been killed and Israeli settlers are taking over the West Bank illegally, with the approval of Israel's government and the U.S. Ambassador, Mike Huckabee. That's not a path to any sort of peace or security for Israel or the rest of the Middle East.

Don't want to QT a stranger, but talk of SoBe drinks reminds me of my favorite one: Dragon. Dragonfruit probably never tasted like that, but the flavor they did give us was irresistible and tantalizing. The plastic bottle flavors tried, but couldn't match the glass glory days

Look at the font that spells Honda inside the red circle. It's ugly. It's always been ugly. I would debadge it for my $40K. Also, the color accents. I know Honda goes for blue (look at the caliper), but the law in most places demands red lights in the rear... I would have just gone for red accents
