As an art historian, I was always tickled that Takahashi was so amused by "Ecce Homo" painted by Elias Garcia Martinez during the 1930s. Because the painting had started to deteriorate it was "restored" by Cecilia Giménez an untrained 81 year old woman. The result is bonkers.
"The first book by Takahashi that I ever bought was volume 16 of Ranma 1/2. The cover art was so pop and cute. "Pantyhose Taro" really made a huge impression on me. I was also delighted to be able to discuss the works of Daijiro Morohoshi when I consulted her."

Shonen Jump accounts tend to ignore Daijiro Morohoshi's work, Yokai Hunter, ran in the magazine in '74. With horror manga having a renaissance in the US it'd be the perfect time for his work. We've noted his friendship with Rumiko Takahashi, who drew this image of his works.
In MAO episode 12 "Water Sorcerer", Kamon goes to a temple in the ocean to investigate the return of the Goko Clan and discovers a former disciple Shiranui alongside Yurako. Then Nanoka encounters Byoki in the modern era.
