The goal was to use to a very limited palette and to arrive at a beautiful finish without layer upon layer of color glazes. Available to purchase at the time of posting. (Link in profile) . The result reminds me of an old postcard. . “Distant Thoughts” - 9x12” watercolor by Gabriel Garbow, 2026.
This recent painting was fun to work on. “Time Flows Golden” depicts a muscular man lifting himself from a tiled swimming pool at sunset. It is based on a photo taken on vacation in Thailand. The 16x20” watercolor is currently available to ourchase on my webaite: gabriel-garbow-art.square.site
A sweet little painting for you all today. It’s called “Compare and Contrast” and measures in at 8x10”. It was supposed to be a quick two-hour painting, but the skin tones and shadows demanded additional attention. Available in my shop, at the time of this posting: gabriel-garbow-art.square.site
Another new one. Available in my shop at the time of posting. www.gabrielgarbow.com “Dream in Jade” focuses on contrasts: the red-orange of the figure’s skin vs the blue-green of the pool, the brights lights against dark shadows, and the seductive yet wearily distracted expression of the subject.
Brand new! “The One” is a watercolor painting measuring 11x14” that i finished last week. The image was adapted from a photo that I haven’t been able to source. Let me know if you’re aware of the photog. Available to purchase. DM or email if interested. #aquarelle #watercolor #gayart
Just a quick BlueSky exclusive, hot off the watercolor desk. 8x10” Contact me for more info or to purchase
My friend Anthony was gracious enough to let me photograph him a few times for references. “The Choice Is Yours” from a few years ago is one of the resulting paintings. Measuring 14x22”, it is still available for purchase at the time of posting.
SOLD - This 11x14” beauty is called “Sour Times” though the model himself looks more contemplative than anything. I enjoyed painting this one. It began as a demo for a gathering and was finished later on. Contact me for your own painting or print.
“Crossing” is an 18x20” watercolor on paper, that is available in my online shop, at the time of posting. I’m really pleased with how this recent painting turned out. The water effects and moody atmosphere are a little different than my typically bright subject matter. Let me know what you think.
Standing on a balcony against a brilliant blue sky, the subject of this painting seems slightly distracted. It’s not hard to share the feeling. The 8x10” watercolor is currently available. Direct message or email me for info.
This joyful 8x10” watercolor of a black man wearing red floral shorts standing in a swimming pool is available. Contact me (dm or email) if you would love to have this painting on your walls to enjoy every day.
It’s been a while, huh? This painting never got the full reveal, so here it is now! “Remain in Light” is an 18x24” watercolor on Arches paper. It luxuriates in the feeling of surrendering to the beauty of the natural world and the world within. Thoughts?
Three 8x10” paintings of handsome guys wearing green shorts. If that’s something that interests you, please check them out in my online shop. All three are available for reduced prices, at the time of posting. gabriel-garbow-art.square.site Which is your favorite?
Progress shots and finished painting “Quality Time”. This 11x14” watercolor was part of the same series as “Absent” from the previous post. It continues to explore the mild absurdity within the mundane contours of relationships. Please leave your thoughts. Should I revisit this series?
Four stages of the 11x14” painting “Absent” from five(!) years ago. This was part of a series that definitely bears revisiting, depicting slightly odd domestic scenes, populated by a bunch of guys who look suspiciously similar to myself. As always, feel free to contact me with questions & requests.
A small painting of the family that we used for our Xmas cards last year. That’s (from left to right) husband Ronley, dog Biko, and me. Commission a small portrait like this of your own! Contact me by direct message, email (gabrielgarbow@gmail.com) or use request form on my website (link in bio).
Someone else posted this painting a day ago and it got a lot of attention. Let’s see how my own post does. Lol “Everything Zen” is a 15x22” watercolor that sold almost immediately upon release. Who would like to commission a similar piece for their own? #commissionsopen #malemodel #gayart
Come sail away…. Don’t you just want to escape sometimes? This 8x10” watercolor, imaginatively titled “Sail and Shorts” is from quite a while back and is long-since sold. But you can contact me for a custom painting with similar themes. #gayart #homoerotic #maleart #gaymale
A large painting inspired by the photography of Ryan Glista. “Construction Time Again” pays homage to hard work and the appropriately industrial sounds of Depeche Mode. The painting is long since sold, but please DM for custom artwork in a similar vein. #gayart #watercolor #maleart #nudemale
A new one inspired by the style of Henry Scott Tuke after a photo by @bransolo on Instagram. At the time of posting, this 9x12” painting of pensive youth is available in my online shop. gabriel-garbow-art.square.site/product/-boy...
If I were to give in to my worst instincts and write a pun-centric caption for painting, what would it be? “Reclamation” - 16x20” watercolor on 300lb Arches cold-pressed paper. Available: DM for more info.
A painting I’m quite fond of from 2020. A friend of mine modeled for a photo session in another friend’s pool in Sacramento. The results were … inspiring. “Anthony’s Back” watercolor on paper by Gabriel Garbow. Sold; but DM for more options.
A different kind of pool scene from the last one. A very different perspective. When painting tiles, I usually watch a movie and simply put in the hours. It doesn’t require much thinking, just a little attention and a lot of patience. “Pool View, Puerto Vallarta” 18x22” - DM for purchase info.
Who wants to get wet? When the composition is fairly simple, the details really matter. I especially love how the pool deck turned out. Available here: claudiacastilloartstudio.com/shop/ols/pro...
An appropriate one for another hot summer day. The picture subtly invites the viewer to ask whether the man is climbing amongst the clouds or simply an ethereally prosaic pool. “Barred” - 16x20” watercolor on paper by Gabriel Garbow. Sold from Claudia Castillo Studios in Ft Lauderdale, FL
