Been trying to do some writing outside this morning but it's very difficult with this absolute unit insisting on keeping me company.
Morning all! Here's an enjoyable encounter I had on my lunchtime walk yesterday.
This confirmed all of my reasons for never wanting to make friends on holiday. Speak No Evil (2024) on Netflix.
Maybe it's that it's a hot day. Maybe it's that there's three of them. But THE CHICKEN TRIPLE felt like seriously hard work. Every mouthful like a walk across the Sahara with no end in sight. There should be a warning on the packet that if you attempt this without a drink, you'll probably die. 3/10.
Always thought it was so clever the way they used different typefaces to show that people from different places were speaking different dialects or languages. This font for the Goths is just so perfect.
Getting back on to Asterix tonight with book 3 - Asterix and the Goths. Have absolutely no memory of what this one's about but assuming Asterix meets Robert Smith and the rest of The Cure and they go on an hilarious adventure together.
Going to attempt to watch three football matches before the night is out, and here's by far the most high-profile of them: Cove Rangers v St Johnstone in a pre-season friendly.
The cheese is nice, the ham's nice, but that dry, stodgy white roll is seriously hard work. You know when you get an entite baguette stuck to the roof of your mouth and can't get it off? That. SMOKED HAM & MATURE CHEDDAR (sub version) only gets 5/10.
Adding to this a little shout-out for Dotty's own book MOTH THE VEGGIE VAMPIRE which is absolutely brilliant and available for pre-order now. On the left is me reading a preview copy, and on the right is my favourite chapter (I think all books should have a chapter called this, come to think of it).

Woah woah woah. Putting these three biffers together feels almost unfair on the rest of the sandwiches. But don't be dazzled by their muscles. The ham one and the cheese one were both way too dry, leaving ol' chicken and bacon to do the heavy lifting. THE HAM, CHEESE & CHICKEN TRIPLE only gets 7/10.
Watching this for the first time. It's basically the plot of Jaws but with a volcano instead of a shark, and I love that. Dante's Peak (1997) recorded from Channel 4.
Seen a few people sharing this Greenpeace post and I totally agree with the point it's making but it feels pretty unlikely to me that Jordan Pickford and Elliot Anderson wouldn't also have immigration somewhere in their family lines? We basically all do if you go back far enough.
It's the last day of our holiday and I'm sad because every day this week we've walked past this hotel sign and I've remarked that the logo looks like a pair of Y-fronts, and I'll never get to do that again.

On the subject of AI flyers, this (👇) is what the Instagram feed of Costa in Fort William looks like. This is a company that goes into a great deal of online detail about its environmental policy, all of which suddenly looks incredibly outdated when its individual stores are doing things like this.
Going to stick my neck out here and suggest that murdering animals is not, in fact, an art.
No one in the world agrees with me, but I insist that pesto tastes weird. And the tomato bread here is upping the weirdness. Needed a bag of prawn cocktail as a chaser just to get rid of the taste of this one. CHICKEN MOZZARELLA & PESTO (the lack of a comma is Tesco's choice, not mine) gets 2/10.
