Speaking of the Odyssey, I've started Emily Wilson's translation. I read Lattimore's in the 80s. I was very tempted by Mendelsohn's from '25. I appreciate her POV, esp as a woman. I enjoyed Heaney's Beowulf & Sioned Davies's Mabinogion. They bring that lit to life, which is subjective I know.
Finally resuming Power Fantasy after getting #16, the end of the first arc. I’m on 12 now. It’s crunchy and Wijngaard’s art is great. First book of his work I’ve read.
We're enjoying a higher latitude. Tho the temp & humidity are the same here in Frederick as in DFW, the heat doesn't feel as intense. The photons are distributed over a larger area than in DFW & hit us at a 9-degree lower angle. Not living in a heat island & having more trees & plants also help.
Imagine NASA relying on AI-generated steps to build the CO2 filter for Apollo 13. “Use the trans-orbital adhesive….” “WTF is that? AI just made that up.” They also used the *printed* flight manual in the makeshift filter.

Wore out but unable to sleep, I rewatched Superman for the first time. Their portrayal of Kryptonite poisoning on Superman reminded me of the Virus X look in Action 363-365 (Ross Andru penciller). His skin isn't green but has that lumpy texture also in Virus X.

Southern fried catfish & shrimp are hard to find in this part of MD. Sure, they have fried catfish & shrimp. But no cornmeal in the batter & barely seasoned. If I were willing to risk the $, I'd open a cajun restaurant. These Old Bay people would like real cajun food if they had it.

As good as I think my biscuits are, they take time, and I don't always have buttermilk on hand. But Mary B's frozen biscuits are pretty dang good. Much closer to homemade than Pillsbury. I treated myself to a fried egg and sausage biscuit this morning, the most substantive meal since my surgery.

We've rejoined the CD world. I still have my CDs, all in binders, after I ripped them years ago. My wife bought a couple of CDs for collecting and wants to listen to them. So I bought this Fiio unit to be a semi portable player or to connect to my stereo.
These sketches are fun to meet folks, to hear what they enjoy & see their reactions. The woman requesting the cats sketch was so excited. She returned next day w photos sharing it w her family & cats. Sometimes I’ll try my hand, like with Sabertooth, tho my drawing chops are gone.
We stopped by the national portrait gallery on our way to see Othello w Wendell Pierce. Wiley's Obama truly stands out with the vivid saturation. It's different to see in person. With de Kooning 's JFK portrait nearby, I wonder if Wiley played off it, which has a bit of green & vivid color.
I'll remove the top of the pepper shaker in a restaurant to get the amount of pepper I require. Sometimes my plate is a snowfall landscape of pepper. I love my new grinder. I don't need peppercorns pulverized to dust. Give me that barely-cracked grind, where I get the occasional bit I can chew.
Sometimes, you just need to lie on the wood balcony, with the breeze drifting up between the slats on your fat belly. I'm slogging my way through corporate training. It's a warm 89, but it's surprisingly cool on the backside of the townhome with the awning out and just enough of a breeze.

Last night, I bought this Storm painting by @artofdonaguillo.bsky.social as part of an artist showdown event.They used craft acrylic paints to create paintings in 1.5 hrs. Don is a super nice guy as well as being so talented. The composition is fantastic. I'll have to do a breakdown later.
Good time at Philly Fan Expo. Grace has had a few commissions, including a Sabertooth. One thing is certain: These fan cons would not be nearly as popular without women and a diverse audience. Thank you for making these events so huge!!
