If you understand why it is wrong to fat-shame Trump, then you should understand why it is wrong to "taxpayer" shame any Republican, even in response to that Republican "taxpayer" shaming his or her own opponents, as Marjorie Taylor Greene did to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Refute and reject the dishonest, harmful premise. Don't VALIDATE it.

When you fat shame Trump, you aren't hurting Trump at all. But people who struggle with weight issues will hear you, and it will affect them. Furthermore, people who don't struggle with weight issues will see that you are giving a green light for them to bully those who do, because you, the supposedly-morally-superior 'liberal' person, are saying that that is an acceptable criticism to make of another person.

The same exact thing is true for "taxpayer" and "the deficit."

And if you cannot argue for a progressive or liberal vision of society without invoking "taxpayer" identity, if you can't argue against Israeli bombing of Palestinian settlements without talking about how those are your "tax dollars" going to that destruction, and if you can't argue for universal healthcare for reasons other than "I pay taxes" and "it saves money," then that is a sign of a much, much, much deeper problem

The least civil disobedience against the federal government that nearly everyone could participate in would be to not file taxes this year. Consider it step one of the National Strike. We need to organize a comprehensive list of demands - #PeoplesConvention - that prevent resurgence of tyranny.
