1k hits on MURDERHOUND!! honestly, when i started writing this story, i just had a real goofy-ass idea in my head, and an urge to make it real. at best, i kinda figured that maybe like, 5 or 10 people tops, would even care. but it turns out that a lot more than i expected liked it. a *lot* more.

Progress on MURDERHOUND Act 5 is coming along *quite* well so far, between the two of us. I’m sure she won’t mind if we post a few preview snippets of what’s been completed thus far. I *do* hope you all enjoy it~

In an instant, Diane is snapped out of her thoughts by a gruff voice greeting her. It takes her a moment to realize that it’s coming from that Lieutenant Columbo woman, who has been standing in front of her. The colonel soon pulls her calm, professional self back together. It just wouldn’t do for an Imperial officer of her rank, let alone the base commander, showing any sign of weakness now. Especially not to any sort of guest. They are supposed to be the stable rock with which those under them are supposed to rely on. She closes her eyes for a moment, takes a deep breath, and greets her.

“Ah, Lieutenant Columbo, thank you for co-mi….”

Kingston’s voice trails off as she finally gets a good look at Columbo. This was certainly that detective alright, but….her outfit… Underneath her tan raincoat, she was wearing…that fucking uniform. An imperial officer’s uniform made out of black leather. The mark of a handler and all those training under Cassidy to become one. It hasn’t even been a whole day since they last spoke, and already she’s wearing *fucking* black leathers. And…is that the fucking dog that was assigned to her standing right behind her?! What the f-

Kingston stops herself and breathes again. Calm once more, she starts trying to ask the most burning question on her mind.

“Lieutenant…I’m afraid to ask but… what’s with the uh…”

Her voice trails off, the question dying on her lips. Thankfully, Columbo seems to already know exactly what she was trying to ask.

“Oh, the uniform? Yeah uh…”

The lieutenant sighs. Already she looks unhappy to even be thinking about it.

“Well, it’s a long story, sir. I really don’t want to bore you with the details, but suffice to say, it’s the only good outfit I had available on such short notice. I *really* would have preferred not to, but I didn’t have much choice. And I doubt you would have approved of me arriving in just my underwear, sir.”

As She approached the entrance to the mech hangar, Handler Jacquline Cassidy found Herself in quite the foul mood. Although She was still riding the high from performing Her lecture for that detective, nothing could change the fact that She found this whole affair to be intolerable. “General” Regina Irving was nothing more than yet another dangerous mutt that needed to be put down. Perhaps if she had stuck to merely complaining as she always had, Cassidy could have tolerated her presence. Unfortunately, this dog was threatening to ruin Her and Her entire program. Allowing her to do so would have threatened humanity’s very survival, driving them towards extinction. Killing her was entirely necessary.

Yet, none of the wittering fools gathered here today could ever truly understand or appreciate what She has done. They do not understand the truth, nor would they even accept it. All that these miserable ingrates see is an old war hero, tragically slain by a wild animal. They will mourn her and celebrate her deeds as a hero of the Empire, while Cassidy has no choice but to bite Her tongue and suffer though listening to all that inanity.

Ah, the sacrifices She must endure for the sake of humankind’s continued existence…

“What the hell do *you* think you’re doing here, *Handler*?”

Kingston’s words are filled with barely veiled contempt for Her. The Colonel hated Cassidy and Her program, as did many others at Fort Arvon. However, unlike the now-deceased General, the Colonel *at least* had the good sense to not rock the boat. Cassidy simply smiles before giving Her response.

“Why, I’m here to pay my respects to the General, of course.”

“Bullshit. Irving hated you and your disgusting program. What’s more, one of your program’s fucking dogs got her killed! I don’t believe for a fucking second that you actually give a shit about her.”

Kingston was entirely right, of course. The two of them hated each other completely, and Cassidy did not regret killing that mutt in the slightest.

“My dear Colonel Kingston, I assure you, even though the two of us certainly had our disagreements, I did actually quite respect her professionally. The fact that one of our assets had been the one to kill her is something that truly haunts me every night. Truly, I can only blame myself for not being strict enough in managing my department. Perhaps if I was, this *horrible* tragedy could have perhaps been prevented.”

one last preview for MURDERHOUND Act 4. Still in the middle of revising things, but it’s getting there. This one’s a few excerpts from the big scene I’m most excited to show off, and honestly why writing this chapter has taken so damn long CW: gunplay

“Sit. Down.”

At that firm command, Columbo immediately sits back down, her terrified eyes transfixed by the revolver. With a few small flicks, Cassidy opens up the cylinder of her gun, and empties the spent casing and the remaining five bullets into her drawer. The shot was merely a means to an end. What came next was what really mattered. It was finally time for a very special lecture.

“You see, Lieutenant, I’ve experimented with quite a few different tools for my work. I’ve already shown you a little of the latest machinery, over in that cell yesterday. But this? This is one of my oldest tools. As you can see, it’s an ordinary revolver. A gun. A tool for killing. Even a hound could tell you that. Couldn’t you, C754?”

In an instant, the mask of that meek, pathetic creature crumbles away, revealing the true form of the animal underneath. Her pet, Her hound. She puts her left boot forward for the beast.

“Hound, come get your treat.”

Immediately, Hound wrapped itself on Cassidy’s leg, and begins eagerly rutting it’s crotch against Her boot. This wonderful, stupid creature, immediately acting on its instincts, fulfilling its base desires. It was beautiful, really, this creature that Cassidy had created. So obedient, so loyal. It would do *anything* for Her without a second thought. And now, She was going to blow its brains out to prove a point to Columbo.

Hound moans in ecstasy at the sound of the hammer hitting the empty chamber. If that stupid beast could even have a single thought running in its cute little head, it might have realized how close it was to death. Maybe it could have comprehended the situation, as Cassidy continued to keep Her gun pressed against Hound’s forehead. Instead, it had simply orgasmed, surely staining the pants of its flight suit, and resumed humping against Her boot.

The detective, meanwhile, was frozen midway through trying to stand up and reach for Cassidy’s gun, stopped painfully short by the click of the gun. With a single glare from the handler, Columbo slowly sits back down.

“There are six chambers in this gun, Lieutenant. Six chambers, and only one bullet with this mutt’s name on it. Unless you’d like to see what’s left of its brain splattered on the ground, I suggest you think carefully before trying to answer again. You should know this already from our previous conversations.”

The draft for MURDERHOUND Act 4 is done. It’s still got editing and feedback stuff to go over, but it’ll get released Soon ™️ In the meantime, I’ve got another preview snippet to share!

Miss Columbo was kind. Very kind. Dog knew that much. Every step of the way, She was just…nice. So very different than all the others in the Kennels. And yet…this very morning, it all seemed to be much more than before. Almost too much. Dog couldn’t help but think it didn’t deserve all this kindness. It stared at its plate again, nervous to look directly at Miss Columbo.

“Um…Miss?”
“Yeah?”
“Did…did something happen last night? You seem kind of…different.”

Columbo puts her coffee down, and begins to stare at it. Stare at it long and hard. Dog looked up at Her, and it seemed as though a mask was falling off of Her face. Gone was that kind, cheerful face, replaced by a truly weary woman with an utterly haunted expression on her face. It twists and contorts as She wracks her brain, considering everything on Her mind. Eventually, She leans back in Her seat, and pulls out Her cigar and a matchbook from Her coat. Miss Columbo sighs.

“I guess it’s a bit obvious, huh. Well, I just…had a bad night. A lot of stuff’s been bothering me, and I couldn't sleep at all. I’ve been up all night trying to think about….everything. Haven’t been able to get anywhere.”

Miss Columbo puts the cigar in Her mouth and lights it. She takes a few puffs from the cigar, savoring the smoke for a bit.

“You know, I’ve been trying to quit these things for about a couple of months now. Terrible vice, really. Doctor says they’re no good for me, messes with the estrogen. My wife agrees with her, and tries to get me to try all sorts of things to get me to quit. Had actually been making good progress recently. Heh. So much for that, I guess…”

She inhales deeply and expels the smoke above Her. There, She continues to stare up at the ceiling with a grim expression.

“Sometimes I just wonder about…what I can actually do here. Even if I solve the case, will it actually mean anything?”

Miss Columbo lowers Her gaze back to Dog for a second. For a second, She struggles to give a reassuring smile to it. A kind smile that says there’s nothing to worry about, all is well.

She fails.

Whatever She’s trying to hold back finally breaks though. All too quickly, the crushing weight of everything comes crashing down on Her. It’s too much. It’s far too much. Miss buries Her head in Her hand, and begins crying.

“What can I even do? What the fuck can I even do about any of this?”

Dog didn’t know what She meant. All it could tell was that Miss was in deep pain. It wanted to be able to help lift that pain off of Her shoulders, carry some of that weight.

Except, it was just a dog.

All that it could do was crawl over to Miss Columbo, and nuzzle up to Her, showing Her its affection and love for Her. Miss stopped herself, looking at Dog for a second, and then patted the pilot on its head. The two of them sat in silence for a while like this. Dog didn’t know how to truly help Her, but perhaps this would be enough for now. It had to be.

Making good progress on the initial draft for Murderhound Ch4. Still got a lot of exciting work ahead, but i feel pretty good about what I’ve got so far, so i figured I’d share a preview in the meantime:

Columbo sighs and decides to move on instead.

“Alright, so…handler. What do you think of her, exactly?”

A slight smile came to A617’s face. It couldn’t help it. “Love Her.”

The woman thinks for a moment. Something about its answer seemed to bother her, somehow.

“You love her, huh? You love your handler, right? Are you absolutely sure? Wouldn’t you hate her, especially after everything that’s been done to you? All the torture and brainwashing, and…and…”

Columbo stops and turns away, completely lost in her own thoughts. There was a bit of hesitation in her voice. The dog could hear it all. Apprehension and doubt. Whatever was bothering her was so clearly eating away at her. For A617, however, no such doubt existed. Some confusion at what she asked, but most definitely not any doubt. With joy in its voice, it gives its answer.

“Why….why would it hate Her? It loves Handler. Handler loves it. Handler does everything for its own good.”

Something inside that woman suddenly snaps, and she quickly steps up close to A617 and slams her fist against the wall with all of her might. It flinches at the suddenness of it all. Righteous fury burning from within her, threatening to go out of control. So close to the dog’s face, Columbo is practically screaming now.

“How can you say any of that?! Don’t you realize anything about what’s been happening, what this ‘handler’ has even done to you?! She’s destroyed your life! Done unspeakable things to you! How can you just sit there and say that any of it is okay?!”

She slams her fist against the wall once more. Tears are flowing down her face.

“How can any of you live with this…this sick devotion for any of them?!”

A617 sits up straight, and looks Columbo straight in the eye. That burning rage is tinged with a fathomless sorrow that threatens to drown her. It takes a deep breath, and then simply repeats the truth that was engraved on its heart.

“She’s my everything. Handler is my universe.”

A moment passes as the two look at each other. Drowning in her own tears, Columbo soon turns away, and without saying another word, storms out of the cell, and vanishes into the corridor beyond. Shortly afterwards, the cell bars slide closed. The lights return to their dim state.

Alone again one more, A617 decides to lay down and rest. This time, its thoughts settle on Columbo. Foolish and strange as she was, she was certainly a kind and unflappable woman. At least, until now. It couldn’t help but wonder what could be bothering her. Perhaps she hasn’t gotten enough sleep? After a minute of consideration, it shakes its head and closes its eyes. Thinking of such things wasn’t important.

It was just a dog, after all.
