RiP Sam Neill. He may have been the coolest paleontologist from Northern Ireland, but to me he was always the greatest submarine XO on the Red October. I hope he is happy in that home in Montana ❤️ BBC News - A versatile actor whose roles went far beyond Jurassic Park www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Thanks to a successful research grant the @qubelfastofficial.bsky.social #Geography Automatic Weather Station (AWS) is back online & should be more stable. 5min Observations are live and free to view/download here. Our Solar and UV observations may be useful! www.wunderground.com/dashboard/pw... 🌦️🌞
It's been fun & challenging! The mashup of physical model and spatial data projection has been really cool. After all the printing and projector calibration it's exciting to see data projected! We plan to add different visualisations/simulations with park team as part of a new visitor experience 😎🇻🇳

Some deep sky pics from the Mourne Mountains at the weekend. Whirlpool Galaxy M51a. 40min stacked exposure on the #S50. About 30mil ly away and 80000 ly across. 🔭🌌
A bit of colour in what is normally a dystopian cycle commute through Dargan/Duncrue. This part of North Belfast is the main cycle corridor into Belfast from the ferry ports of Scotland and England, your first introduction to NI when on a bike. It's a DFI/Belfast Harbour sponsored wasteland 🚴🏼😔
Yup currently running a home in rainy Ireland from yesterdays leftover sun 🤓🌞
Our #Belfast Geospatial Projection Map is in the Titanic Museum tomorrow. Can't wait for people to see it 🛰️🗺️😎 #GIA #Geography @qubelfastofficial.bsky.social
Working with colleagues in Biology @qubelfastofficial.bsky.social we had the big bird up today trialing workflows for small farm UAV Lidar surveys, as part of the Dairy+ research project. We hope to help model surface nutrient flows and calc above ground carbon stock. #drones4good #M400 #PrecisionAg
Mournes fire (Attical) area still active today. FIRMS 2026-05-01 13:36:00 🔥🛰️😞 firms.modaps.eosdis.nasa.gov/map/#d:today...
Home renewables in NI work. In April we generated enough solar to run a home and exported the rest. Getting better at the solar into the battery balance. NI home solar peps only get 10pKWh on export but most of us are buying it @40pKWh (day)! Imagine if we could sell at a fairer price! 🌞😎
As of midday 29-4-26 approx. 18.26km2/1826ha of heathland and heather has been fired in the Mournes due to malicious burning. Surpassing the large c300ha burn of 2021. Sentinel 2 Short Wave Infrared (SIiR) captured yesterday's active fire fronts which NIFS have been working hard to control. 🛰️🔥🗺️
Extent of burning in last 24hrs in Mourne Mountains. NASA FIRMS 'hotspot' sensor. New burn to South West in last 24hrs above Rostrevor area. 🛰️🔥 #NotWildfires
Fire season has started in earnest in the Mournes. These are not 'wildfires' or natural, but the deliberate burning of upland areas. Burning destroys habitat and fauna while releasing tonnes of carbon & particulates dangerous to human health, while local fire crews are deployed for days to control 🔥
Hey Newry peps. Local heroes JMcC and NComer have created this Irish Street name map for the town and includes audio pronunciations. Mapping and language 😍🗺️ mapanory.com/v/street-nam...
Today I have been mostly finding Rhizoliths (trace fossil root cast/tubule). #fieldwork #mallorca #qub
