I'm reading a business book which is describing evacuation of patients from a hospital in flooded New Orleans and I read "frequent sniper fire". What? There's a rabbit hole here. And the NRA must hold some culpability. Also, what?

Text from an ABC (USA) News report about sniper fire.

Sniper fire broke out on a freeway overpass overlooking the Superdome on Saturday as thousands of exhausted hurricane Katrina refugees waited for buses to take them to safety.

"One man with a gun was shooting. The police heard about it, so we got everybody down," said Lieutenant Colonel Scott Elliott.

"As this deteriorates, those guys (snipers) are going to be out more and more," he said.

"They've shot at the buses. At the convention centre they've shot at the troops."

Not an hour ago I saw an Audi and wondered what happened to the Quatros they were giving away on Sale of the Century about a century ago. And here I am drinking the last Tennents of my Glasgow trip, and a black Audi with black trim and black air dam with Quatro in silver reverses into a tenement.

I'm not a big footie fan, but I'm even less of a fan of cutting people just because it doesn't suit you. So I wrote an email to the AFL supporting the Kynton Women's Football Club, the Wedgies.

Email to a general AFL email address saying:

You guys should know that you are an embarrassment to Aussie Rules Footy. You are so out of line with your supposed values at the moment.

Do you seriously think that it's appropriate to tell the Wedgies that they can't play?

With the sort of money you are making, you could create a whole league around this one team if you're really cared. Not that that's what they want. The Kynton Women's Football Club just want a chance to play. So make a space and let them play, cos that's good for football.

'Michael's Mum' on Facebook just described the NDIS atm as clearly as I have seen it done. I also think some honesty, transparency and integrity from government would go a long way to repairing trust and the system itself.

Plain text on a white background: The NDIS debate is really about two things Australia is currently pretending are separate but are actually sitting in the same leaking canoe (or lifeboat if you prefer).
The first is state capacity, which is a fancy way of asking: can the government actually deliver complicated services without accidentally creating a paperwork-themed Hunger Games?
The second is freedom, which is a fancy way of asking: can vulnerable people actually participate in society, or do we just say lovely things about inclusion while quietly leaving families to duct-tape entire support systems together in their lounge rooms?
So when we hear stories about provider rorting, excessive administration, inconsistent assessments and cost blowouts, I don’t think the conclusion should be, “Well, clearly supporting disabled people was a terrible idea.”
That’s like saying, “The plumber overcharged me, therefore bathrooms were a mistake.”
The conclusion should be that Australia needs more honest plumbers.
