I just finished a book where Death is just a normal dude, and it confirmed my belief that there are only two acceptable versions of a modern Deaths out there and people should stop trying to make new versions of them.
"All my friends are having fun in other rooms at this party." #GameChanger @samreich.bsky.social
Is there a part of you that's like, "finally a chance to cut down on this clutter!" but also "I don't need anything! Just this ashtray. And this paddle game. The ashtray, the paddle game, and that's all I need! And this remote control. The ashtray, these matches, the remote control. And this lamp."
I keep these photos to prove 1) I was a cute friggin' baby (in the ET shirt), 2) My name really is spelled this way, it's not something I invented for the internet, and 3) I've had access to books since I was two. 😁
What if you were in the hospital for three weeks, the entire country speculating you were dead, and when you finally triumphantly revealed you were still alive, the universal reaction was - at best - this:
Imagine triumphantly announcing you survived a health scare and the reaction is everyone is generally bummed out. "Well, we had a good morning at least....."
Five police, two fire trucks, and an ambulance. Someone called 911 fer sure...
Throwback to the time I was cleaning out my grandmother's apartment for her move to a nursing home and spotted a copy of my first Stargate novel on the shelf next to her chair. With a bookmark! Ah God love her, she had to have been so confused. 😄🥰
Part of a script, MAGIC LANTERN, that I have NO idea where it came from. I don't write things with two male leads. But it popped fully formed into my head, with casting (and backup casting!) already in place, so I had to write it to get it out of my head. #FirstPageFriday #ScriptSky
I know this is a scam, an obvious one at that, but... to what end? Like what's the intention here?
The other two shots, if people are curious. Filter to prevent accidental spoiling. 😉
There's a page on Instagram where they show people three screenshots from a movie and they try to guess what it is. I may have seen this movie way too much because I got it on the first one.
I'm glad they're upfront about it, and how easy it is to be fooled. Also, I email myself a copy of my work-in-progress every day. To prevent catastrophe but also to have a log. My current WIP (which is no longer even called this)
"Mitch McConnell called me and I talked to Mitch McConnell and we talked for twenty minutes."
The Liz Vassey one is more of a collaboration, which *I* think is even cooler. She asked if she could rephrase some of her dialogue to sound more like "her," and I absolutely agreed. So while I wrote the book version myself, we wrote live-action Gillian together. 😁
First Neil Gaiman now Stephen King using Scripture to defend a Nazi-branded rapist. Thank God I never got into Harry Potter.
I based the main character's look on Anita Loos, an actress and novelist who had a "lifelong fascination with lowlifes and loose women." 😁
Coming tomorrow!! A sneak peek at the opening of my story. It's in the middle of the anthology, which is the best position. Peak position. No pressure to be the first and set the mood, not the last to be the final taste of the collection. Right in the sweet spot. 😁
Revolutionaries wait For my head on a silver plate Just a puppet on a lonely string Oh who would ever want to be king?
In addition to the toxic algae, the felon has now poisoned the air in DC with his stupid fireworks display. This is literally what happened when Scar took over Pride Rock.
Even in my lowest points, I've always found a reason to stick around. Now I have this message from my favorite person, and like ... it's out of my hands, I gotta make sure I stick around at least as long as they do.
Another red state is getting their fireworks displays canceled by God. Imagine if these cult members still believed in getting signs from that guy. Tonight would be a BIG awakening for them.
Look, I let the fat king fall in lava and/or get eaten by a dragon, I am a vengeful god of whatever world these people inhabit and no one is safe on my watch. But hey what if he dies, they discover this lady is a secret princess, his wealth goes to her, we're all happy.
Rewatching Asteroid City for July 4th. I feels weirdly American in a way I can't explain but don't find offensive.
Something actually worth celebrating: ten years ago we officially announced Marem Hassler was playing Riley Parra. The first of my characters to be brought to life, and I could not have gotten luckier than Marem. Such a beautiful soul. Proud to share ownership of the character with her. 🫶🤗
He doesn't mention it in the article, and it could be apocryphal, but I've heard tell that this was originally a Stargate sequel. Aliens came here for revenge after that movie, Jeff Goldblum was originally Daniel Jackson... but MGM had already given the rights to others to make a TV show.
Update: I do have one friend who still gets a red circle for posting a new story, but then it doesn't go away after I watch.
