I accidentally taught my dog that the touch command means she finds my open palm and licks it instead of booping it with her nose. I now need to teach a new "boop"command because licking is not optimal.
Now that I think about it, it was not so much an escape, as it was a really engaging plot. It's possible if I read this in the dead of winter I would have had a rougher time of it. I really did like it though. The world-building this author does is really excellent.
I need good ideas for games to play with my incredibly smart and active herding dog on days that I have migraines and can't run around or focus on training. I do a lot of which hand? and snuffle mats. What else?
Apropos of nothing, here is a hilarious photo of my dog. Almost all of them look like this because as you get down to take her picture she gets up to lick whatever is in reach.
Trying to teach my dog how to dance. Once we get this down, I'll post a video. Right now we've got back up and then move forward in time with me along with both counter and clockwise spins. Plus, she can now put her paws on my legs on cue. I don't think I can do anything about the joyful barking.
Y'all! After five years of waiting my peony has bloomed. Last year the deer took the bud before I could see the color. The year before, it got ripped out as part of a sewer replacement. The year before that, it was too young. But in 2026 when everything else is going to shit, my peony has bloomed!
Y'all are incredibly helpful. I'll get a harness with a handle and I won't forget my bear spray. And I'm making sure the car has extra towels, wipes and water to clean off for the ride home. Ash says thank you and is concerned about bears now.
For those of y'all who hike with your dogs in the PNW woods/mountains? What else do you bring on the trail (for a 3-8 mile hike)? I have poop bags, water/water dishes, snacks, tweezers, vet wrap and saline. Should I bring paw balm? Something else?
Ash follows me around all day with a ball in her mouth. So pretty much constantly during working hours.
Don't tell her I said this, but she's actually weirdly proportioned. She has a very tiny head, a pretty round body, and terribly long legs. And she reminds my husband of Kash Patel.
After some heartbreak with our first effort, we have a new dog. Please meet Ash, a six year-old Mini American Shepherd (mini Aussie) who is mostly a cat. Her favorite way to greet you is rubbing her head against your leg.
More inspo for name suggestions. She is very nervous and seeks pets. She is also quiet and interesting in her surroundings.
Let's have a moment of fun! We are bringing home a new pupper. Her shelter name is Princess Bubblegum but we plan to change it. I'm taking suggestions. She has tiger stripes and is very sweet.
Here's a derpy figurehead on a sculpture of a famous Icelandic explorer.
Look at this incredibly enthusiastic, 2,000-year-old terracotta horse at the Seattle Art Museum. I love a derpy animal sculpture.
Goodbye to my stubborn, goofy pup who loved sniffy walks, chasing rolled blueberries, and sitting outside in the sun. You were a perfect companion.
The statement included from JBS is the most unintelligible corporate jargon. Reuters should be ashamed of printing it. If a company doesn't want to say something, then just say the company refused to provide an intelligible comment.
This time I only took #shittynorthernlightpics because of the cloud cover and a wee bit more light pollution.
I recently chided my husband for not saying boop in a high-pitched voice as he took off my dog's collar for the night. I sing unhinged songs all the time for everything, so this was more concerning for him. The dog isn't here for any of it.
My dog is an escape artist who manages to wriggle out of the back yard only to travel a few yards to hang out under the front porch. If we don't catch her and a delivery person shows up, they are terrified by the barking and scrabbling that comes from underneath their feet.
Here's a snapshot of my coat closet with all of my requisite Big Dark gear.
