Look at this pretty little Virginia Creeper Sphinx moth (Darapsa myron) with that great camouflage pattern. I found it nestled in my rosemary. It's only the second time I've seen one around here which is surprising as my neighbour has an abundance of Virginia Creeper. #Lepidoptera #Moths #Insects

A Virginia creeper sphinx moth (Darapsa myron) perched on my fingertips. The forewings have a camouflage pattern of dark brown, tan, gray, and olive green. Just beneath my hand is a pot of pink Calibrachoa with a dark pink eye. Found it nestled in my rosemary.

Sweet & they do lift spirits! Next to feisty little Chickadees, I love the Nuthatches. They seem a little comical when they climb down a trunk headfirst with their "yank" call. This one landed on my back gallery (looking for peanuts) as if to say "Wahoo, Sun's out" despite all the piles of snow.

From the angle, the tail looks rounded so yes, likely a Cooper's Hawk. I have one that very frequently hangs around my back yard (I feed the birds). When it's around the Chickadees really sound the alarm & they all take cover and freeze. This is from last Summer.

I hate spiders as much as Indie hates snakes but this has always been one of my absolute favourite cartoons from Gary Larson's The Far Side:
