Humanist/atheist chaplain at places. Opinions mine not Harvard's/MIT's. NYT Bestselling & award-winning 📚 Good Without God + Tech Agnostic. Reclaiming my last name from evil. Reforming the tech religion. Took '25 off social media, now ~back.
Admittedly I did write a book explaining how AI and related technologies have become the world's most powerful religion. But it's still awkward to have to explain to certain companies that it's...not an instructional manual.
Wow, the AI scam game is getting stronger and stronger. Now we're out here trying to phish Harvard professors into panicking that parents of students are complaining about their courses, huh? That is...niche. But I mean, when even the Nigerian prince's email scammer job isn't safe...
Every executive, investor, marketer, and indeed even every user of an app so cynically and amorally trying to (further) gamify democracy and indeed our humanity itself...should be deeply ashamed. But many seem lacking in basic capacity for shame or thoughtfulness. So we must hold them accountable.
Wow I remember seeing that piece during the pandemic and didn't get around to it. This is HIGH praise, and yet, even before seeing the show, I get it:
If you get annoyed by typical Boomer perspectives on aging, life extension, etc.: my mom, who has never been on social media, got her comment approved by the NYT today and she has THOUGHTS
[Taps mic] There seems to have been a miscommunication. So I must point out that my book Tech Agnostic: How Technology Became the World's Most Powerful Religion, and Why it Desperately Needs a Reformation, is not - I repeat NOT - an instructional manual. Thanks for your attention to this matter.

I'm very much not a prophet but this was the world's easiest news story to predict. Fake altruist billionaire Sam Bankman-Fried wants a Trump pardon—a match made in literal AI Heaven/Hell, if you know my analysis of Effective Altruism as a fanatical sect of Tech Religion. www.cnn.com/2026/06/08/b...
Little known fact, AI "personal podcasts" stream directly from Hell. The broadband these days is sensational!
Laugh if you want, but now that Trump has captured the Absurdity infinity stone, his powers to manifest shit like this may truly be unstoppable:
The Pale Blue Dot says, "Go Blue!" Congratulations @umich.edu @umichbball.bsky.social
Work with me on this one. If you squint it could be the explanation
Both Modest Mouse and Noah Kahan have very strong new singles out "Oh my God, we're so fucking dumb, look how far we haven't come..." "I hope you're scared of only ordinary shit...not your soul and what He might do with it..."
I cover David Noble's superb 1997 📔 The Religion of Technology and other related works from back then, in the intro to Tech Agnostic. 🗝️ difference between my book & Noble's: in the 90s Silicon Valley tech was...*A* religion—but a relatively smaller one. Now it's THE most powerful faith on Earth.
The director should be fired mid-film. No need for any further work.
About to read this like it's Sports Center (in the 90s), 60 Minutes (in the 90s), my Facebook feed (early aughts), Twitter (next decade), and an AI chatbot in front of a kid struggling with attention issues, combined.
All this mis- and disinformation we already have to deal with from our government, and AI, and then your own daughter *insists* she will only eat her quesadilla if you pack her "sour crap"—definitely not cream, she will refuse to eat that.
Heading home I passed by tens of thousands of concertgoers parading out of MSG in Manhattan. What does the world's richest tech company, its fortune built on search, have to say about that? Absolutely nothing correct. AI worshippers: your God is fucking pathetic. (Tate McRae=the correct answer fwiw)
Did I travel to NYC for 15 hours to see a debate between @glenweyl.bsky.social and Curtis Yarvin, a man known as "Mencius Moldbug" for his influence on people like Thiel, Vance, and Musk, on whether the U.S. should be ruled by a CEO dictator? Why yes, it appears that I did. #OpenToDebate #Scared
I love sports, but this country's collective addiction to gambling is increasingly hard to watch these days
I have a lot of life updates that I'm overdue to post here but none has produced a more, well, divine image than my episode of #SuperDataScience with Jon Krohn, which immediately brought 3 words to mind for me: "Oh. My. Gods."
Absolutely do read @jasonkoebler.bsky.social @404media.co on the pathetic saga of DeepSeek & Open AI, in which Koebler has to literally stop to lol for a few lines mid-piece. But if not, one meme will suffice: "You're trying to kidnap what I've rightfully stolen!" www.404media.co/openai-furio...
So...federal aid-gents are mad because he's flagrant? 🚨🚨📟 paging @arimelber.bsky.social 📟🚨🚨

Some "doomers" worry that AI will get to the point where it sees humans as disposable and wants to use our bodies as resources, but how are the actual people who wrote this any different? I mean, assuming AI *didn't* create this Economist headline
Talking today with my friend who lost his house and everything else in the Altadena fires (he's very much still accepting @gofundme.com support! gofund.me/4ff033bc) while he was driving. At one point he interrupted and said, "WTF??" He was driving right by THIS. It's very much not over, folks.
