Yesterday, the current ALBA Party leadership left the door open for a transition team to take the party forward. Today, a team of elected members convened a meeting to explore that possibility.
There have been extraordinary efforts to date to ensure the survival of the party, and the current leadership deserve enormous credit. It is now clear that they feel unable to continue and, while that is regrettable, it should not mean the end of the party.
We believe there is a strong appetite among the group of candidates and the wider membership to fight the election. It is vital that the ALBA Party contests the election in May to ensure hundreds of thousands of pro- independence votes are not wasted, allowing Unionists, such as Nigel Farage's extreme right-wing party, an easy ride into Parliament.
With ALBA standing on the Regional List, independence will be on the ballot paper, helping to elect pro-independence ALBA MSPs. It must be remembered that SNP list votes will be wasted. Therefore, ALBA gains can reduce Reform, Tory, and Labour MSPs without detriment to the SNP.
This interim committee of elected members seeks the following:
1.A vote of the entire membership to decide whether they want the party to continue to fight the election
2. The launch of a fighting fund to raise the required amount to ensure the party's survival and ability to fight the election
3. A meeting with the existing leadership team to discuss their offer of a transition

Last year's Eurovision winner Nemo hands back his trophy with some fine words for the EBU 👏💚

Last year I won Eurovision and with it I was awarded the
trophy.
And even though I'm immensely grateful for the community around this contest and everything this experience has taught me both as a person and artist, today I no longer feel this trophy belongs on my shelf.
Eurovision says it stands for unity, inclusion, and dignity for all. Those values made this contest meaningful to me.
But Israel's continued participation, during what the UN's Independent International Commission of Inquiry has concluded to be a genocide, shows a clear conflict between those ideals and the decisions made by the EBU.

This is not about individuals or artists.
The contest was repeatedly used to soften the image of a state accused of severe wrongdoing, all while the EBU insisted Eurovision is "non-political."
And when entire countries withdraw over this contradiction, it should be clear that something is deeply wrong.
That's why I've decided that I'm sending my trophy back to the EBU headquarters in Geneva.
With gratitude and with a clear message:
Live what you claim.
If the values we celebrate onstage aren't lived offstage, then even the most beautiful songs lose their meaning.
I'm waiting for the moment those words and actions align.
Until then, this trophy is yours.

We can confirm that Jedburgh's Carnegie Library has been sold to Jedburgh Conservative Councilor John Bathgate.
There were only two offers on the table. If Councilor Bathgate had not submitted his offer it is highly likely that the community would now be in discussions to take on the library for itself.. John had previously stated to us his offer was for £100,000, 40k under the asking price.
Although not much of the decision meeting can be made public we know that during the meeting three SNP councilors proposed an amendment to delay the sale to allow the community time to develop a more robust plan. This would have been in line with what was offered to other buildings across The Borders included in the Live Borders decisions earlier in the month. This was not accepted. The Executive Committee is made up of 10 Conservatives, 3 Independents, 3 SNPs and 1 Lib Dem. The vote was 3 against, 1 abstained and the rest voted to sell to Councillor Bathgate.
He has stated previously that the upstairs will be an Air BnB and that 10% of the profits would be used to fund some kind of community space downstairs. However, that makes little financial sense if you give it a moments consideration. The key thing is that Councilor Bathgate has absolutely no obligations to the community, cannot be held to account in any way and can do what he wants with it, as can his family when they one day inherit it.
